Shedding his usual cynical demeanor, the man's face grew terrifyingly dark. "Officer, this matter cannot be dismissed as a simple family dispute for private mediation." His voice was cold, sharp, and carried an overwhelming sense of authority. "This estate was explicitly designated to Sylvia by the deceased, making her the sole legal owner."
Steve shot a freezing glare at the mother and son standing nearby. "The opposing parties entered the premises without any consent from the property owner, attempted to alter the architectural structure, and tried to unlawfully occupy it for commercial use. This constitutes trespassing and property damage."
He turned back to the officer, maintaining his firm stance. "This is no longer a simple domestic misunderstanding. It is a civil infringement and a blatant attempt to unlawfully seize someone else's assets. According to standard procedure, you need to take them back to the station, record their statements, and handle this in accordance with the law. It absolutely cannot be brushed under the rug with a private settlement."
The officer, an experienced veteran, instantly recognized that the man standing before him was not someone to be trifled with. His professional and rigorous breakdown completely locked in the legal severity of the situation. The officer's expression immediately turned serious as he nodded. "If it involves property infringement and illegal demolition, then it indeed cannot be casually mediated. They will have to come back with us."
Panic instantly washed over Madeline's face upon hearing those words. "Wait, no... Officer, we really are blood relatives." She desperately wanted to argue, but the moment she looked up and met Steve's glacial eyes, the words died in her throat. Faced with Steve and the long standing oppressive power of the Michell family, Madeline did not dare utter another syllable.
Harrison also stared at Steve in absolute shock. He never would have imagined that the eldest son of the Michell family would personally travel all the way to a small town like Seaview just to back Sylvia up. He was suddenly entirely confused about the true nature of their relationship. But even if he were given ten times the courage, he would never dare to openly offend Steve.
Ultimately, the police escorted the mother and son into the back of a cruiser. Seeing their employers get arrested, the construction workers who had been loitering outside the gates quickly packed up their tools and scattered. The once chaotic estate finally returned to a state of peace.
As the wailing sirens faded into the distance, Sylvia let out a long breath of relief. Turning to Steve, she pressed her lips together before finally saying softly, "Thank you."
"No need," Sylvia replied without even looking up.
With a crisp click, she expertly secured the new padlock, yanking it twice to ensure it was properly fastened. She stood up, brushed the rust off her hands, and turned toward the outdoor sink in the yard to wash up.
Steve's outstretched hand curled awkwardly into a fist in midair. Seeing that he was of no real help here and was only annoying her, he simply turned and headed toward the kitchen.
After washing her hands, Sylvia surveyed the yard filled with shattered bricks and collapsed greenhouse frames left behind by the excavators. She took a deep breath, put on a pair of work gloves, and bent down to clear the debris. She had only moved a few bricks when a beautifully sculpted hand suddenly appeared in her line of sight, holding out a bulging, rolled up towel.
