The tour concluded, and Julian stepped aside to take an urgent phone call.
Evelyn returned to the office, walking in and shutting the door behind her.
Hazel was sitting at her desk, organizing data, and didn't bother to look up.
Evelyn slowly approached and stood in front of her desk, a triumphant smile plastered on her face. Her voice was soft, yet laced with blatant provocation.
"You see? I told you. Julian will give me whatever I want."
She leaned forward slightly, planting her hands on the desk as she stared at Hazel. "And you? Hazel, you are nothing to him."
Hazel looked up at her, her gaze perfectly calm. "Is that so? Then why doesn't he divorce me and marry you?"
It was a direct hit.
Evelyn's face fell for a second before she recovered her smile. "That's only because my divorce isn't finalized yet. Once I'm officially divorced, he'll leave you without hesitation. Don't flatter yourself."
Hazel gave a faint smile and looked back down at her files, completely unbothered by Evelyn's taunts.
Seeing her dismissive attitude, Evelyn's expression darkened. When she spoke again, her tone reeked of faux pity.
"You really have to bury yourself in work just to cope, don't you? Hazel, you're so pathetic. I saw it out there—none of your colleagues even like you. That's just who you are. No matter where you go, nobody will ever like you."
Hazel didn't even lift her head, her voice unnervingly even, utterly unaffected. "Are you done? If you're done, please get out. I have work to do. And if you have so much free time, sort out that pile of documents over there. That's your assignment for today."
Evelyn's patience snapped. Hazel remained entirely unfazed. Did she really not care? She had to be faking it. Nobody else might know, but Evelyn was certain she was putting on a brave front.
Evelyn leaned into his chest, her eyes red as her voice trembled with feigned terror. "I'm fine, Julian. Don't blame Hazel. She didn't mean it. She probably just thinks I'm trying to sabotage her, but I only wanted to try a different approach."
Julian looked up at Hazel, his gaze lethal and overflowing with rage.
Hazel stood there, watching this meticulously staged performance, finding the whole thing incredibly laughable.
She walked over, pausing right in front of them, and then, right before their very eyes, she raised her hand.
Smack!
She delivered another hard, echoing slap directly to Evelyn's face.
Evelyn clutched her cheek in genuine shock, completely blindsided by the second strike. Julian was completely stunned.
