Better Late, But Never His Again novel Chapter 173

Nellie's face was livid. Just as she was about to snap back, Hazel arrived at her side.

Chloe's gaze shifted to Hazel, a flicker of surprise crossing her eyes. She hadn't expected to run into her here, let alone see her wearing a deep-V, backless dark green dress.

A moment later, she curled her lips into a cold smirk, her eyes brimming with mockery.

"I didn't expect someone like you to come to a place like this."

Chloe twirled the black card between her fingers and tilted her head, making no effort to hide her contempt. "A housewife should just stay at home, serve her husband, and raise the kids. Oh, right, I forgot. You don't have any children."

"Doesn't that just make you a barren hen?"

Chloe laughed at her own joke, the sharp sound clashing harshly with the mall's background music.

Evelyn lightly tugged at Chloe's arm, lowering her head as if trying to offer a gentle warning.

Chloe shot her an impatient look. "Don't give me that. I don't care. I saw this first, so it's mine. It doesn't matter who was here. Besides, Hazel is just a housewife. Who is she trying to seduce by parading around in an outfit like that?"

Hazel's gaze turned icy. Staring at Chloe's mocking, smiling face, she felt a profound sense of whiplash. This was the same girl who, four years ago, used to link arms with her and sweetly call her family. Now, she was standing here spewing such vile insults.

Ignoring Chloe completely, Hazel turned to Nellie, her voice utterly calm. "What happened?"

Nellie was fuming, her clenched fists trembling slightly at her sides. Her voice carried an undeniable edge of grievance. "I saw this dress first, and they snatched it right out of my hands."

Chloe clicked her tongue in annoyance. She picked up the champagne dress from the counter, held it up against herself, and checked her reflection in the mirror before turning back to Hazel and Nellie with a disdainful sneer.

"If you can't afford it, don't look at it. I buy whatever catches my eye. If you like it so much, are you going to buy it?"

She turned fully toward Hazel, her gaze lingering on the dark green dress for a second, as if she had just found an even more amusing target.

She leaned back, crossed her arms over her chest, and gave Hazel a slow, judging once-over.
