Better Late, But Never His Again novel Chapter 158

Zane's gaze lingered on her face for a moment before he stepped aside, offering her a polite gesture to proceed.

"Would I have the honor of taking you to dinner, Ms. Vance? I have a business proposition I'd love to discuss with you."

Evelyn's eyelashes fluttered. This was exactly the opportunity she had been desperately searching for.

But she didn't agree immediately. Instead, she flashed a modest smile, playing hard to get.

"I'm afraid I don't have the time today, Mr. Sheridan. I still have some academic matters to discuss with Arthur. Could we perhaps schedule it for another time?"

Watching her handle herself with such poise, Zane's satisfaction grew.

Confident but not arrogant, composed, and knowing exactly what she wanted and when to say no.

Most women he encountered would have practically tripped over themselves to say yes the second he opened his mouth. Evelyn truly was something special.

"Of course."

He pulled a business card from his inner suit pocket and handed it over. "Why don't we exchange numbers? Whenever you're free, just give me a call or send a text. I'm at your disposal."

Evelyn took the card, glancing at it with a sweet smile. "That sounds wonderful."

Zane tucked her contact info away and gave a slight nod. "I have some matters to attend to, so I'll take my leave."

Evelyn nodded, watching him disappear around the corner. The sweet smile instantly wiped off her face. Looking down at the business card in her hand, she let out a dark chuckle before firing off a text to Julian.

"Julian, Mr. Sheridan gave me his number tonight. He said he wants to take me to dinner soon. Do you think I should go?"

She sent the text, the screen reading "Delivered." She waited, but the chat window remained completely silent.

Evelyn's expression turned thunderous. She shoved her phone aggressively into her evening bag.

Julian was straight up ignoring her texts now. He had abandoned her here to chase after Hazel, and now he was giving her the silent treatment.

What was so damn special about Hazel? She beat her academically, she overshadowed her at work, and now she was even stealing Julian's attention.
