Better Late, But Never His Again novel Chapter 124

Marcus and Hazel left for the company after breakfast.

Upon arriving downstairs, a black Cayenne was parked at the entrance. The door opened, and Julian stepped out, his expression as dark as a brewing storm as he marched straight toward them.

"Mr. Thornton."

Marcus paused, turning his head to see Julian. One of his brows arched slightly, and a mocking, unreadable smile tugged at the corner of his lips.

"Well, this is a rare sight. What brings you here today, Mr. Hayes?"

Julian skipped the pleasantries and completely bypassed any professional courtesy. He stood tall in his tailored suit, but the dark circles under his eyes betrayed his exhaustion. It looked as though he hadn't slept all night; the recent chaos had clearly taken a massive toll on him.

He looked at Marcus and asked coldly, "Mr. Thornton, have you seen Hazel?"

Marcus's expression remained unchanged, even adopting a perfectly measured look of confusion. He tilted his head, his tone incredibly nonchalant. "Dr. Garrison? Isn't she your friend?"

Julian didn't reply, his jaw tightening slightly.

Marcus let out a laugh, though the amusement didn't reach his eyes. Instead, it carried an inexplicable, sharp edge. "Since she's your friend, Mr. Hayes, why are you asking me?"

Julian's brow furrowed even deeper. Of course, he knew Marcus was playing dumb, but the problem was he didn't know how to subtly probe without exposing his actual relationship with Hazel.

Suppressing his frustration, he forced a tight smile. "I need to speak with her about something. I was just wondering if you had run into her."

"That's a shame," Marcus replied with a hint of regret, though his face showed absolutely zero sympathy. "I haven't seen her."

With that, he turned and headed inside. His assistant, who had been waiting by the entrance, tactfully pushed the glass doors open.

Julian's voice chased after him. "Mr. Thornton."

Marcus paused but didn't look back.

"If you see Hazel," Julian's voice dropped low, sounding genuinely anxious. "Please let me know. I really have something critical to discuss with her."

Marcus slowly turned around, standing on the steps. Looking down at Julian, he suddenly let out a soft chuckle.

The laugh was light, yet it made the muscles in Julian's back tense involuntarily.

Marcus spoke in a casual tone. "Mr. Hayes, I assume you've heard the rumors circulating online?"

Julian remained silent, his lips pressed into a thin line. How could he not have seen them? Those rumors were the exact reason he hadn't slept a wink in days. All he originally wanted was for Hazel to apologize to Evelyn, so they could move past this. But Hazel clearly misunderstood his intentions, choosing to leap out of a second-story window rather than give an apology.

Marcus continued, "That night, it was Audrey and Evelyn who invited Hazel to the spa. Audrey and Evelyn are quite close, which I'm sure you know. On the flip side, neither of them are particularly fond of Hazel."

He paused, a playful, cryptic gleam in his captivating eyes.

"So, Audrey and Evelyn invite Hazel to the spa... doesn't Mr. Hayes find that a little too interesting?"

Without waiting to see Julian's reaction, he turned and strolled into the building.
