Better Late, But Never His Again novel Chapter 121

Marcus reached out, his long fingers hooking under her chin. His grip wasn't overly dominant, but it left her with absolutely nowhere to hide.

The man's voice was deep and magnetic, laced with a casual, teasing playfulness.

"What exactly do you think I'm going to do? Hazel, a man and a woman alone in a room, talking about a topic as sensitive as taking a shower... are you purposely trying to give me ideas?"

Hazel furrowed her brows, her tone dead serious as she looked ready to swear on her life. "I'm not. I really just want to take a shower. Please don't misunderstand."

Marcus stared at her for two seconds, his captivating eyes reflecting her slightly panicked face.

Then, he let out a soft chuckle. A second later, he scooped her up into his arms again.

This time, Hazel's face instantly paled. Her fingers tightly gripped the lapels of his shirt as her voice grew frantic. "Mr. Thornton! I really just need to wash up! I didn't mean anything else!"

A soft scoff echoed by her ear. He didn't say a word, simply carrying her into a bedroom at the end of the hall before the door clicked shut behind them.

Marcus placed Hazel on the bed, and she sank slightly into the plush mattress.

Then, he straightened up, looking down at her from above. The cynical, playful expression faded from his face, replaced by a touch of seriousness.

"I'll have someone come up to wash you in a bit. The doctor said no showering today. If you don't listen to me, I'll send you right back and hand you straight to Julian Hayes."

Hearing that name, Hazel's eyes subconsciously darkened, a flash of pure ice slipping through her gaze. She lowered her head, her voice muffled. "I understand."

Marcus cast a glance at her, then turned and walked out.

It didn't take long before a knock echoed on the door.
