There was no running away anyway.
She stopped fighting.
Seeing her finally quiet down, the tension in Jarred's expression eased slightly, and he reached out to take her hand.
Sienna immediately yanked her hand back, keeping her eyes shut in feigned sleep.
But Jarred completely ignored her resistance, leaning in closer.
His large, warm hand enveloped her fingers tightly, his thumb rhythmically stroking the back of her hand.
She opened her eyes and met his gaze.
He was staring at her, his eyes devoid of any readable emotion, but his grip was unyielding, as if he were deliberately testing her limits.
Unable to break free, Sienna was forced to swallow the sickening disgust churning in her stomach, letting him hold her hand.
Halfway through the drive, Sienna's phone suddenly rang.
Seeing Luna's name, her heart skipped a beat, and she answered instantly.
Luna's voice rushed through the speaker, laced with urgency. "Sienna! A senior nurse at the hospital just told me Celeste seems to be digging into Owen's overseas treatment.
She's currently tracking down the doctor who handled the transfer to ask questions. You have to be careful—she might be planning to make a move on Owen!"
Sienna's grip on the phone tightened instantly.
She knew Celeste's twisted mind better than anyone.
"Owen's surgery is coming up soon. Keep a close eye on everything over there," Luna warned. "With him being so far away, I'm terrified she might try to sabotage things, and we won't be able to react in time."
"Yeah," Sienna nodded firmly. "I understand."
She forced herself to sound entirely composed, reassured Luna briefly, and hurriedly hung up.
But the sudden pallor and flash of panic on her face didn't escape Jarred's sharp eyes.
He tilted his head toward her, his tone probing. "Who was that? What did they say?"
Sienna shot him a hostile glare, turning her head to stare out at the city streets blurring past the window.
"A hitman," she deadpanned. "Confirming your family's time of death."
Hearing this, Jarred let out a low, rumbling laugh, the sound magnetic and teasing.
