Sienna quickly collected herself, maintaining a completely expressionless face. "I returned it."
Jarred caught the fleeting panic in her eyes and scoffed. "Maybe you don't even know yourself as well as I do."
He leaned forward, closing the distance between them. "I know every class you took in college, every mentor you studied under, and even the extracurricular skills you secretly picked up.
You're an expert in hypnosis. Anything that makes a sound can be used as your medium.
Your grandmother was a master of traditional medicine, and you inherited absolutely everything she knew, didn't you?"
Sienna clenched her fists as the blood instantly drained from her face.
How could Jarred possibly know all that?
The Sterlings almost never asked about her past, and she certainly never offered the information. Even when Jarred visited her during the holidays, she never brought up school.
Just how much did Jarred know about her? What exactly was he getting at?
Sienna felt a chill shoot straight up from the soles of her feet.
"Going out of your way to borrow a priceless moonstone bracelet for a banquet just isn't your style." Jarred gave a half-smile. "I imagine that bracelet was quite helpful to you, wasn't it?"
Sienna stared at the face that had once made her heart flutter, the same face that had ultimately broken it. Looking at the chilling indifference mixed with an emotion she refused to analyze in his eyes, she suddenly felt exhausted beyond belief.
With her disguise ripped away, a liberating sense of recklessness washed over her.
Meeting his unfathomably dark gaze, she offered a nonchalant smile. "And what if it was?"
"If you hadn't hypnotized Celeste, none of this would have happened!" Jarred's voice plummeted in temperature.
Sienna fired back, "You only see me bullying her. What about when she swapped my evaluation forms and got me suspended pending an investigation? Why didn't you say anything then?"
"You were suspended because of your own poor attitude toward your job. I told you before, that was entirely your own fault."
Sienna found it utterly absurd. "Do you even know why I couldn't make it back in time?"
