Chapter 73 Ask Him Out
Chapter 73 Ask Him Out
Joelle let out a startled scream.
She went tumbling all the way down the stairs.
Finally, she landed on the first-floor steps, clutching herself in agony.
The staircase wasn’t even that high.
Joelle was clearly putting on an act with that reaction.
Natasha stood above her, staring down with a cold, dismissive look.
Percy’s urgent voice echoed from behind her. “Joelle!”
He rushed down the stairs and helped Joelle, who was curled up in pain on the floor, to her feet.
“Joelle, are you okay?” Percy asked, his voice full of concern.
“I…” Joelle felt her anger and resentment simmering inside.
She was ready to pull away from Percy.
But then, out of the corner of her eye, she glimpsed Natasha up on the stairs.
Suddenly, she broke down in tears and buried herself in Percy’s arms.
“Percy, I can’t move…” Joelle sobbed.
For the first time, Joelle willingly buried herself in Percy’s arms.
He was stunned for a moment, but inside, he couldn’t help but feel a surge of delight.
He slowly raised his hand and gently patted Joelle’s back, a bit unsure.
“Don’t cry, Joelle. Let me take a look,” Percy said softly.
Percy crouched down next to her, reassuring her in a low voice as he carefully examined her injuries.
It looked like she twisted her ankle when she took that spill.
“Joelle, what on earth happened?” Percy asked, his voice full of concern as he gently massaged her injured ankle.
“It was her…” Joelle shot Natasha a venomous glare, pointing up at her without hesitation.
Percy followed Joelle’s gesture and looked up to the second floor.
He spotted Natasha standing there, watching them with a cold, unreadable expression.
For some reason, Percy suddenly felt a pang of unease.
Without thinking, he wanted to loosen his hold on Joelle.
Joelle cried out dramatically, right on cue. “Percy, it hurts so bad. Am I dying?”
Suddenly, she wrapped her arms around Percy’s neck and choked out, her voice trembling with’sobs.
Seeing Joelle looking so helpless and pitiful, Percy couldn’t help but feel a pang of pity for her.
Whatever guilt he had left for Natasha was wiped away completely.
He glared at Natasha, his brows drawn together in frustration.
But Joelle was in so much pain that Percy couldn’t be bothered to argue with Natasha right now.
Percy scooped Joelle up in his arms and carried her away right in front of Natasha, making sure she saw it.
Watching them disappear, Natasha’s lips curled into a sarcastic smirk.
‘Joelle’s acting is so bad that it’s almost embarrassing, Natasha scoffed inwardly.
But even with such obvious fakery, Percy didn’t notice a thing.
Natasha thought, ‘He must really be head over heels for her.
‘Only true love could make someone this clueless.’
Back home, Natasha wasn’t surprised Percy hadn’t come back.
Joelle was putting on a show, so of course she’d make sure to milk it for all it was worth.
Natasha figured she probably wouldn’t see Percy again for the rest of the night.

Chapter Ank Him Out
Whatever, as long as I don’t have to see them, Natasha thought.
Natasha didn’t want to see him anyway.
She filled up the tub and slipped in, enjoying a long, relaxing soak.
Just as she was about to get into bed, her phone rang unexpectedly.
Natasha headed to the window and picked up.
It was a call from the real estate agency.
Natasha had submitted her preferred housing options online earlier, letting the agency know exactly what she was looking for.
The agent called to say he happened to have a place that fit her requirements and was ready for her.
Natasha agreed to meet him tomorrow to check out the apartment.
After hanging up, Natasha’s gaze drifted down to the street below.
Right then, she saw a Rolls-Royce turning around and pulling away.
Natasha’s neighborhood wasn’t the fanciest place in town.
She would spot the occasional fancy car cruising in and out.
But a Rolls-Royce was a first.
Natasha took a second look, unable to resist checking it out a bit more.
Her apartment wasn’t high up, and the neighborhood was always bright at night.
When the Rolls-Royce turned around, she spotted the license plate, and realized it was one she recognized.
Natasha thought, ‘Wait, is that Jared’s car?
‘No way, that can’t be right.
‘Maybe I’m just seeing things.
‘Why would Mr. Rundell’s car show up in my neighborhood?’
Natasha’s gaze flickered for a moment, and the car had already vanished.
She turned around and went back to her bedroom.
As she lay in bed, she couldn’t help but think about Jared.
Earlier tonight, in that private room, Lizzie had actually asked her to help set her up with Jared.
This was no ordinary challenge. It was a seriously tough mission.
If things backfired, she could easily lose her job.

The next day, as soon as Natasha got to the office, she got a message from Lizzie.
It had the time and place for tonight’s dinner with Jared.
Natasha thought, ‘So Lizzie really is counting on me to set up a date with Jared.
‘Whatever, I’ll just go through with it.
‘I’ll help her out this one time and pay back the favor.
‘Anyway, Jared and Lizzie are basically a power couple, talented, attractive, and their families are a perfect match
‘Who knows, maybe their families are already plotting to marry them off to each other.
‘If I help Mr. Rundell get what he wants, maybe all those awkward moments, my freak-out, getting drugged, might finally be forgotten.
‘And he wouldn’t have to stoop so low as to mess with me anymore.”
Just then, Derek knocked on her door, asking for her help to convince Jared to take his medicine.
Natasha seized the opportunity and used it as an excuse to head over to the CEO’s office.
“Come in!” Jared’s deep, familiar voice came from inside the office.
Natasha took a deep breath and pushed the door open.
To her surprise, Jared was lounging in his executive chair behind the desk, cigarette in hand.
The office was practically drowning in a cloud of smoke.

Natasha couldn’t help but cough.
“Got something to say?” Jared’s voice was low and direct, his piercing dark eyes settling on Natasha.
His gaze was intense, those deep, dark eyes locked right onto her.
Natasha quickly nodded and walked over to him.
“Well…” Natasha started, her lips twitching as she tried to muster up a smile, but it came out awkward and hesitant.
She struggled to keep the smile on her face, words stuck in her throat.
‘I mean, I can’t just come out and ask, “Hey, are you free tonight?” right off the bat, can I?’ Natasha thought, feeling the awkwardness creeping in.
“I brought you your medicine!” Natasha said, giving him a friendly, ingratiating smile.
She smiled at him, trying to look as pleasant and helpful as possible.
Jared’s handsome face gave nothing away.
He drummed his index finger on the desk, not even looking up. “Put it down and get out.”
Natasha had come in with the medicine and a glass of water.
She set both on his desk.
But she didn’t want to leave just yet. She still had something important to say.
Just then, she caught sight of the ashtray by his right hand, stuffed full of cigarette butts. Without thinking, she reached out toward it,
“What are you doing?” Jared’s deep, icy voice suddenly broke the silence.
Natasha flinched, her hand trembling.
She hurried to explain, “Your ashtray’s overflowing. I just wanted to empty it for you.”
Jared replied, “Don’t bother. The cleaning staff will take care of it.”
Natasha said, “Seriously, it’s no big deal. Just takes a second.”
She went for it anyway.
But Jared grabbed her wrist, stopping her.
“Just do your own job,” he said coldly.
Natasha couldn’t help but roll her eyes.
Natasha grumbled inwardly, ‘Does he seriously think I want to clean his ashtray for him?
‘It’s not like I’m dying to tidy up, I’ve got something I need to say, but I can’t just blurt it out.
‘I am just fishing for an excuse to linger in his office a little longer.’
Without thinking, she yanked her hand free from his grip.
But in the process, she ended up bumping into the glass of water on his desk.
The water spilled right onto his lap.
She tried to stop it, but it was already too late.
The whole glass of water dumped out, soaking him right in the lap.
Natasha felt her nerves fraying, her stomach twisting with dread.
She didn’t even dare meet Jared’s eyes right now.
She knew for sure she’d just made him furious.
Right now, all she could do was apologize and try to save the situation, there was no other way out.
“I’m so sorry…” Natasha stammered, panic all over her face.
She snatched some tissues from the desk and started wiping at his pants, not even thinking twice.
She was so frazzled, she didn’t even realize just how private, and mortifying, the spot she was touching actually was.
