Chapter 55 Family Trial
Chapter 55 Family Trial
When Natasha arrived at Whittier Manor, everyone was already waiting for her.
At the head of the table sat her father, Bernard.
He was the head of the Whittier family and the chairman of Whittier Group.
Despite his gray hair, Bernard’s presence was as commanding as ever.
To Bernard’s left sat his wife, Roxanne.
Her impeccably maintained face betrayed not a hint of age.
She wore a lavishly embroidered qipao, her entire look completed with designer jewelry from head to toe. She exuded the aura of a true society matron.
Beside Roxanne sat her daughter, Joelle, decked out in designer brands and jewelry just like her mother.
But when it came to beauty and presence, Joelle simply couldn’t compare to Roxanne.
Roxanne had been a stunning beauty in her youth.
She was shrewd and resourceful, too.
Rumor had it that back in the day, her looks alone helped Bernard secure quite a few lucrative business deals.
If Roxanne had been able to give Bernard a son, Natasha’s grandmother never would’ve drugged him and forced him to sleep with his secretary, Sandra.
Even after Sandra gave Bernard both a son and a daughter, she still couldn’t shake Roxanne’s hold on his heart.
Joelle might not have inherited Roxanne’s looks, but as Roxanne’s only daughter, she was the true heiress of the Whittier family.
Ever since they were kids, Joelle had always lorded it over Natasha.
In Bernard’s eyes, Joelle was the only one who mattered. Natasha was never even a thought.
On Bernard’s right sat Natasha’s mother, Sandra.
Compared to Roxanne and Joelle, who were decked out in jewels, Sandra looked so plain in comparison.
She didn’t wear a single piece of jewelry.
Her clothes were just simple, nothing fancy.
Even though she was younger than Roxanne, Sandra looked way older, the wrinkles around her eyes and mouth were impossible to miss.
And every time Sandra was around Roxanne, she looked like she was walking on eggshells, always nervous, always careful not to step out of line.
“Dad, Roxanne, Mom,” Natasha greeted them as she approached, addressing each in turn.
Bernard just nodded, his face stern and unreadable.
Roxanne curled her lip in disdain.
Sandra glanced at Natasha, but quickly looked away, avoiding her gaze.
It was obvious to Sandra that Bernard and Roxanne had called Natasha back just to give her a hard time.
But Sandra didn’t even dare to speak up for her own flesh and blood.
Natasha had seen this kind of scene so many times growing up, it barely fazed her anymore.
“Dad, what did you call me back for today?” Natasha asked, cutting straight to the point.
Natasha didn’t bother beating around the bush.
Before Bernard could even answer, Roxanne burst out, “What do you think you’re doing? Got guts now, huh? You actually dared to hit Joelle?”
She was so furious, her shout sent chills down everyone’s spine.
Sandra kept her head down, not daring to say a

Chapter 55 Family Trial
Natasha was still blocking Roxanne’s slap, so she had no way to defend herself from Joelle.
Joelle’s slap was coming right for Natasha’s face.
But just as Joelle’s hand was about to land, Collin Whittier stepped in at the last second, stopping Joelle from hurting Natasha.
Collin snapped, “That’s enough, Joelle. You know perfectly well why your husband wants a divorce.
“Do you really think blaming Natasha is going to fix anything? It’s not like that’ll make him change his mind!”
Everyone was left speechless.
Natasha was just as shocked.
No one expected that Collin actually spoke up for her.
“Collin, are you out of your mind? You’re actually siding with her instead of me?” Joelle shouted, completely stunned.
Collin had always teamed up with her to pick on Natasha, ever since they were kids.
‘Did Collin just snap or something?’ Joelle wondered, totally confused.
Collin shot her a cold glare and snapped back, “I’m just being honest here. With that nasty temper of yours, what man could stand you? If I were Nicolas, I’d choose Natasha over you!”
“You!” Joelle was so mad she nearly fainted right then and there.
Collin kept going, “I think Nicolas was just saying that as an example. Instead of reflecting on yourself, you’re here giving Natasha a hard time!”
He turned to Bernard and said, “Dad, if you ask me, Joelle’s husband wanting a divorce has absolutely nothing to do with Natasha!”
Bernard pressed his lips together, staying silent.
He knew exactly what kind of temper Joelle had.
But with both Joelle and Roxanne pointing fingers at Natasha, he wasn’t about to stick his neck out for Natasha, who nobody cared about, especially if it meant upsetting Roxanne and Joelle.
Roxanne saw Bernard starting to hesitate.
She fixed Collin with a stern glare and warned, “Collin, you’d better remember, who’s your real family here, Natasha or Joelle? Whose side should you be on?”
