They sincerely hoped Percy would give Joelle, their divorced daughter, a proper future. But Percy wasn’t as warm as he used to be: he gave vague, indifferent replies to their questions.

It was like he was purposely being evasive. He knew he wasn’t the same man he used to be He’d been married into the Whittier family for ages; not like he was some newcomer.

Back then, none of these elders ever gave him the time of day. They didn’t even care that he was willing to marry in as a sur in-law, let alone actually let him marty Joelle.

But now, their attitude had a complete change; it was all because he was the Grosso family heir. Without that status, he was still nothing in their eyes.

Percy felt disgusted by how suddenly everyone was sucking up to him. He instinctively glanced over át Natasha. She was sitting there, head down, quietly eating by herself.

It was like she was completely isolated from their side of the table. She looked isolated, indifferent, almost untouchable; like she was in a world of her own.

Ever since he became the Grosso family heir, everyone suddenly put on a new face for him, except Natasha.

Actually, Natasha’s attitude toward him had changed, too. She was even less interested in him than before.

Back then, she’d at least smile at him. Now, whenever she looked at him, all he got was an icy stare. Percy felt an indescribable emptiness sweep through him.

Just then, Bernard caught Percy zoning out. ‘Wait, is Percy actually focused on Natasha instead of Joelle?’ Bernard thought, raising an eyebrow in surprise.

“Natasha!” Bernard suddenly called out, getting up from his seat. “Come here.”

Natasha watched Bernard walk away, puzzled. ‘Dinner’s not even over yet. What’s so important that he has to drag me away right now?’ Natasha thought.

In the study, Bernard stood with his back to her, so Natasha couldn’t see his face.

Natasha stood behind him and asked, “Dad, is something wrong?” She followed him, worried it might have something to do with Dorothy. That was why she came along.

Bernard paused for a moment before finally saying, “You should divorce Percy.”

Natasha stared at him in shock. “Dad, what did you just say?”

Her marriage to Percy had always been an arranged union between the Whittier and Grosso families. She’d never had any say in it, whether it was about getting married or getting divorced.

For her father, the very man who once forced her to marry Percy, to now personally ask her to divorce him? That was something she never expected.

Bernard turned around and looked at her. “You know Joelle was cast out by the elite, and after her suicide attempt, the only person she has left is Percy.”

Natasha felt her heart sink. Her lips curled into a mocking smile as she looked at her father. “So, you’re asking me to make room for Joelle?”

Back when Percy had cheated on her after their marriage, he had never allowed her to divorce him, choosing instead to ignore the situation.

When Percy gave her the cold shoulder and acted as if she didn’t exist, Sandra had passed along the message that she should simply endure it.

But now Percy had made it big, and Joelle had been dumped and fallen from grace. She was expected to step aside for her.

That was a dad’s logic. Joelle always received all the good things, while she was left with the scraps. They were both his daughters, yet he couldn’t help playing favorites.

Bernard didn’t even bother to deny it. He just laid out his terms. “If you agree to divorce Percy, I won’t force you to work for Harley anymore. If you want to keep working for Jared, that’s your call,” Bernard said.

Natasha let out a cold laugh. For Joelle, their father kept making exceptions, time and again. Even the principles he had ange sworn by were now completely disregarded.
