Dorothy was just about to remind Natasha that Jared was here.

The next second, a tall figure sat down right in front of them.

Zayn sat down purposely across from Natasha.

“Natasha, you’re even prettier than before,” Zayn said.

Dorothy jumped in, “Nat, you know what? Mr. Jackson isn’t with our company anymore. He has landed a government job.”

Natasha looked up at Zayn. “Congratulations, Mr. Jackson.”

She’d heard before that Zayn came from an influential family.

His father was a bureau chief.

It came as no surprise that he embarked on a career in government.

Zayn scratched his head sheepishly. “Thanks! But since I’m not your manager anymore, you don’t have to call me so formally.”

Natasha smiled. “Then I’ll just call you Zayn from now on.”

Zayn grinned. “Okay!”

Natasha and Zayn were chatting and laughing, completely oblivious as Jared strolled into the restaurant with his friends.

Jared had a ton of work to do today.

But when Algernon, Nicolas, and their crew of childhood friends heard he was finally in a relationship, they just had to drag him out for a get-together.

They said they wanted to see how Jared, the eternal bachelor, managed to fall in love.

Jared was pretty indifferent about it at first.

But then, Algernon suddenly noticed Natasha.

“Hey, isn’t that Natasha? What’s she doing having dinner with some pretty boy?” Algernon joked.

Sure enough, Natasha was there, having a lively dinner with some young guy, laughing and chatting away.

Jared recognized Zayn.

‘He used to work for me, and now, he’s a government official. I can’t believe that even after leaving, Zayn still has a thing for my woman, Jared thought.

His expression turned cold in an instant.

Algernon noticed right away that Jared’s face had soured.

He teased Jared on purpose. “Jared, who’s that guy? Is he really trying to steal your girl right under your nose?”

Algernon’s comment didn’t just annoy Jared. Nicolas wasn’t too happy about it either.

‘How come Natasha’s grinning ear to ear with some other guy? She’d never let her guard down like this with any of us before, Nicolas thought, feeling a pang of jealousy.

Algernon already had his phone out, waiting to catch Jared storming over to demand answers. He wasn’t about to let this golden opportunity slip by.

But to his surprise. Jared didn’t go over.

Neither did Nicolas.

The two of them headed straight for their VIP room, totally in sync.

Inside the VIP room, Jared and Nicolas sat down without saying a word.

Algernon lingered for a moment, quietly watching Natasha and Zayn, then turned his gaze away and followed the others inside.

As soon as Algernon stepped into the VIP room, he could sense the tension in the air.

Maybe it was just his imagination, but he felt both Jared and Nicolas looked seriously pissed off.

Algernon knew exactly why Jared was displeased.

After all, anyone would feel pretty bad if their girlfriend were out having dinner with another guy.

‘But what’s up with Nicolas?’ Algernon wondered. ‘What is he so mad about this time?”

Algernon made a show of clearing his throat as he stepped into the VIP room.

A waiter brought over the menus, but Jared and Nicolas ignored him completely.

“Hey, what are you two spacing out for? Aren’t we gonna order?” Algernon called out, sounding confused.

Jared and Nicolas still didn’t move a muscle.

“Hey, why aren’t you two saying anything?” Algernon pressed.

Jared shot him a cold look, his expression cool. “You talk too much.”

Did I talk too much? Seriously, it’s because they barely say anything, Algernon grumbled to himself.

Realizing there was no point in asking them, Algernon decided to handle it himself.

They’d been buddies forever, so he knew Jared and Nicolas’s tastes perfectly.

Algernon was racking his brain for a topic to break the ice.

He glanced between them, but they still didn’t say a thing.

Algernon was totally floored.

Jared kept his cool. “What do you think?”

Nicolas was always sharp-tongued.

“I guess even if you did make it official, your relationship isn’t solid at all. Otherwise, why would she be out having dinner with some pretty boy?” Nicolas jabbed, not holding back.

He was the type to twist the knife right where it hurt.

He knew Jared was already pissed about it, but he couldn’t resist poking the bear.

Algernon could practically smell the drama brewing.

He thought, ‘Nicolas was totally implying that Jared was the side guy who swooped in, but even after he got the girl, things weren’t as smooth as he’d hoped.
