Chapter 334
‘Don’t! No, please!” Natasha couldn’t stop shaking her head.
She wept, tears streaming down her cheeks helplessly.
She thought she saw a faint light in the darkness.
Someone stepped out from that faint glow.
It was Jared.
Yeah, it really was him.
“Help me! Jared!”Those were the last words Natasha managed to say.
But Jared kept drifting farther and farther away from her, until that last glimmer of light vanished, too.
Her world plunged back into darkness.
Natasha felt dead inside, as if her heart had turned to ashes.
She realized what she’d just seen was nothing but an illusion, and Jared couldn’t possibly show up here.
Her lips curled into a bitter, mocking smile.
She slowly closed her eyes, and her breath faded away.
She waited for death to claim her…

“Natasha!” Jared burst through the door, shouting Natasha’s name, his voice trembling with urgency.
He switched on his phone’s flashlight and looked around frantically.
“Natasha! Where are you?” Jared shouted.
He felt his heart tighten with dread, afraid that if he were as even a second late, something bad would happen to Natasha.
But there was no answer.
He called out as loud as he could, but Natasha didn’t answer at all.
‘Something must’ve happened to her, he thought.
At last, Jared caught sight of a figure huddled in the corner.
It was Natasha.
He dashed over, frantic and desperate.
Natasha was curled up in the corner, her eyes shut tight.
She seemed to have slipped into unconsciousness.
Natasha Jared called out her name, his voice frantic and desperate.

He scooped her up into his arms, clutching her tightly.
I’m here, Nat. Don’t be afraid. I’m right here with you…” Jared kept calling out to her, his heart racing with worry.
Natasha still didn’t move, didn’t react at all.
Jared picked her up in his arms and strode out of the dark underground warehouse.
He carried her out of the enclosed space.
Light streamed in from outside.
Natasha’s eyelids fluttered.
She slowly opened her eyes and saw Jared’s familiar silhouette, so close she could almost reach out and touch him.
She was stunned for a second.
She wondered if she was dreaming.
But Jared’s voice kept ringing in her ears: “Natasha? Nat?”
It was so familiar and clear.
It felt utterly real.
Natasha kept staring at Jared, not sure if this was really happening.
She realized he was still there. He hadn’t vanished.
‘Is he really here?’ Natasha thought, her heart pounding.
Jared saw her staring at him, her eyes hazy and full of disbelief.
He gently brushed her cheek with his warm hand.
The real sensation made Natasha realize that he was indeed Jared.
This time, it wasn’t her imagination.
Jared appeared right in front of her, as if out of nowhere.
She suddenly gasped.
Then, with a loud sob, she broke down crying. “Jared!”
Natasha flung herself into his arms.
Tears poured down her face like a rainstorm.
Her emotions finally burst out, and she completely lost control.
I thought I was going to die!” Natasha wailed.
Jared wrapped his arms around her, holding her tight.
He rubbed her back soothingly and said, “Don’t be scared. I’m right here.”
Natasha couldn’t stop crying
Chapter 334
Her slender fingers gripped Jared’s collar like her life depended on it.
She was so scared, she couldn’t stop shaking.
Natasha had always struggled with claustrophobia.
That whole ordeal brought all her hidden fears rushing back to the surface.
She screamed for help, desperate and helpless, but nobody answered.
Instead, she started struggling to breathe, feeling like she was about to suffocate.
“Nat, it’s all right now! You’re safe!” Jared repeated comforting words again and again.
His voice was low and husky, but steady and strong.
Natasha listened to his voice, breathed in his familiar scent, and finally felt safe again.
It was as if she knew she was alright at last, and she finally set her heart at ease.
By the time Jared carried her out of the warehouse, she had already lost consciousness, her eyes closed.
Jared looked at her pale, tear-streaked face and the lingering marks at the corners of her eyes.
His heart twisted with pain for her.
And a wave of self-blame crashed over him.
‘I came too late, he thought, leaving her trapped alone in that dark warehouse for far too long.
‘But most people wouldn’t have such a strong reaction just from being locked up in a warehouse.
‘Could it be that she had some psychological trauma?’
But now wasn’t the time to figure that out.
Jared clutched her tightly in his arms and marched out, as if fearing he might lose her.

“Take us to the hospital!” Jared carried Natasha into his luxury car and told the driver firmly.
“Yes, sir!” the driver replied with a quick nod and started the car right away.
On the way, Jared pulled out his phone again and started giving orders.
“Dig into it, find out who was pulling the strings behind Natasha’s ordeal today,” he said, his tone icy and authoritative.
“Yes, sir!” the man on the other end of the line replied.
Jared looked down at Natasha in his arms, his emotions all over the place.
Figuring out who was behind what happened to her at Whittier Group wasn’t exactly rocket science.
It had to be someone from her own family.
But he needed to know exactly who.
Was it Roxanne, her dad, or Joelle?’ Jared wondered.
Chapter 334
Jared’s aura turned icy cold.
He was wrapped in an unspoken ferocity that sent a chill down one’s spine.
Just then. Natasha slowly came to in his arms.
“Jared…” she murmured.
The moment she opened her eyes and saw Jared, a wave of relief washed over her.
Jared hugged her tightly, holding her close in his arms.
I’m here,” Jared reassured her.
Natasha shifted in his embrace, found a comfortable position, and fell back asleep.
“What happened today?” Jared asked in a low, tense voice.
Natasha shuddered.
It was like something awful from her past flashed through her mind.
She couldn’t help but feel scared.
But Jared was asking, so she had to answer.

She remembered, “Someone asked me to go down to the basement warehouse to grab something, but as soon as I got there, the lights went out, and the door slammed shut…”
The more Natasha spoke, the more terrified she became, her teeth chattering uncontrollably.
Jared could tell right away that something wasn’t right.
“Are you afraid of the dark?” he asked, his voice gentle but full of concern.
‘If it were just a regular fear of the dark, she wouldn’t have freaked out like this,’ Jared thought.
He remembered that when he found her, she was curled up in the corner of the warehouse, barely conscious.
“Yeah.” Natasha replied without hesitation.
She paused for a second, then decided to come clean.
“I’ve got claustrophobia,” she whispered.
Jared’s eyes widened in sudden understanding.
‘Claustrophobia! It’s a psychological disorder brought on by trauma, Jared thought, and his gaze grew somber. ‘It seemed she had been traumatized before. Something similar must have happened to her.”
Just thinking about it made his heart ache for her.
He couldn’t help but wonder, ‘What did she endure back then?
What kind of trauma did she go through to end up with such deep-seated fears?’
He realized he still knew so little about her.
Im sorry Hailed to protect you,” Jared said.

His self-reproach was obvious as he apologized, his regret almost palpable.
He thought, ‘Back then, when she was in trouble. I wasn’t there, because I just wasn’t part of her world yet

‘But now, things are different. I’m her boyfriend, and it’s on me to look out for her. I should’ve been there for her when she needed me the most.
“It’s not your fault,” Natasha said, shaking her head and forcing a faint smile at Jared. “I should be thanking you.”
She knew deep down she ought to thank him.
He really had saved her life this time.
If he hadn’t gotten there in time, she might’ve died from panic and suffocation.
“You don’t have to thank me, not between us,” Jared whispered in her ear, holding her close.
Hearing his words. Natasha felt a warm glow in her heart.
All that terror had left her utterly exhausted.
Her eyelids grew heavy, and before she knew it, she slipped right back into unconsciousness…
