Natasha’s pupils contracted sharply in shock.

She thought, ‘Did he really drug me?

‘That old bastard actually put something in my drink?’

“You’re despicable.”

Natasha rebuked him furiously,

The thought that this old man still harbored such twisted intentions toward her made her feel sick to her stomach. “Sweetheart, are you feeling all hot and bothered right now? Want me to help you out?”

Nelson’s eyes gleamed with greed as he leered at her with a lustful glint.

“Get lost. Stay away from me.” Natasha snapped, her voice dripping with disgust.

She shouted in disgust.

But her body was burning up, her vision was getting blurry, and her mind was spinning out of control.

She felt completely out of it, everything seemed hazy and unreal.

“If I walk away, who’s gonna put out your fire?” Nelson sneered, completely unfazed by her anger.

He leered at her, moving in closer with a wicked glint in his eyes.

His fat hand reached out, making a grab for her exposed shoulder.

Natasha was utterly repulsed, her stomach twisting and goosebumps breaking out all over her skin.

She struggled with all her might, desperate to break free.

“Get away from me. Don’t touch me…” Natasha shouted, her voice shaky with fear and disgust.

Nelson completely ignored her.

Instead, he ripped at her dress, tearing at the fabric without hesitation.

Natasha was so desperate she wished she could disappear.

She was overwhelmed by a sense of imminent danger.

She screamed at the top of her lungs, “Help. Somebody, please help me…”

Her voice was choked with sobs, sounding helpless and pathetic.

“Even if you scream your lungs out, nobody’s coming to save you.” Nelson grinned, his laughter full of cruel glee. He laughed gleefully, looking smug and proud of himself.

This was the hidden corner he’d carefully chosen.

Almost everyone else was inside at the charity gala.

No one noticed what was happening over here.

Despair washed over Natasha.

If Nelson really got his way, she’d rather be dead than let him touch her.

As her dress was about to be torn off, Natasha felt a surge of panic.

Suddenly, Jared burst onto the scene, his eyes blazing red with fury.

He grabbed Nelson’s arm and yanked him away from Natasha.

His familiar masculine scent enveloped Natasha, giving her a fleeting sense of safety.

For a moment, she finally felt a bit more secure.

“Jared.” Natasha cried out, her voice trembling with relief and fear.

She grabbed Jared’s shirt with trembling hands, instinctively seeking his protection.

“Save me!” Natasha pleaded, her voice desperate and full of terror.

Jared’s heart broke for her in that instant.

He instinctively wrapped his arms around her, holding her trembling form tight.

“Don’t be afraid. I’m right here, Jared said, his voice full of reassurance.

Natasha clung to him, her body growing even hotter in his embrace.

“I feel so awful. I’m burning up. Please, take me to the hospital,” she pleaded, her voice shaky and desperate.

She knew she couldn’t last much longer like this.

Going to the hospital was her only option now.

Jared froze for a split second.

It was like he was now noticing how off she was.

His face instantly darkened.

A fierce edge appeared in his gaze.

Jared didn’t waste a second, he scooped Natasha up in his arms, holding her tight, and got her out of there as fast as he could.

At the Emergency Room.

After examining Natasha, the doctor said, “She’s got a pretty heavy dose in her system.”

He finally gave his conclusion after checking her over.

Jared’s handsome face grew tense. “Is there a way to control it with medicine?”

The doctor nodded. “We can, but the dose is pretty high, so it’ll take a while for the effects to completely wear off. Unless…”

He paused, clearly reluctant to finish his sentence.

Jared squinted, his gaze sharp. “Unless what?”

The doctor was Jared’s old buddy from med school, Maynard Miller.

Maynard had no filter. “You studied medicine too, man. You know the quickest way to deal with this kind of drug, right?”

Obviously, the fastest fix was for Jared to be Natasha’s cure himself.

Jared kept quiet.

Maynard noticed Jared pressing his lips together, not saying a word, and couldn’t help but ask, “Don’t tell me you’re not into

her?”

Maynard had never seen Jared look so anxious and worried, especially when he was carrying Natasha into the ER.

Besides, Maynard wasn’t even supposed to be on duty tonight.

Jared had been blowing up his phone with nonstop calls until he finally came back.

If Jared didn’t have feelings for Natasha, there was no way he’d go to these lengths for her. Jared’s handsome face was clouded with a deep melancholy. “She already turned me down.” Besides, he wasn’t the kind of guy who’d take advantage of her while she was vulnerable. What he wanted was for Natasha to come to him willingly, because she truly wanted him.

Maynard’s eyes went wide. “Wait, what? She actually turned you down? I can’t believe you got rejected by a woman.”

Maynard used to look up to Jared as his senior back in med school.

He knew firsthand how insanely popular Jared was with the ladies.

Back in school, pretty much every girl was secretly obsessed with him.

Maynard had never thought Jared would ever get shot down like this.

Jared frowned at Maynard’s smug grin, unable to hide his irritation.

“You look pretty pleased…” Jared said, his voice cool.

Maynard quickly shook his head. “No, I swear I’m not.”

He knew better than to mess with Jared.

So he quickly changed the subject, smirking, “So, if you’re really not going to be her cure, should I give her the injection instead?”

Jared’s gaze turned dark and unreadable.

He grunted a quiet agreement.

Maynard fetched a syringe and gave Natasha a shot to help counteract the drug in her system.

She blacked out for a while.

But soon, she woke up again, the drug still pulsing through her veins.

Her body was restless, the urge growing stronger, the heat surging back with a vengeance.

Natasha felt like she’d been dropped into the ocean.

Ice-cold water surrounded her from every direction.

She groggily opened her eyes and froze for a second, completely stunned.

‘Why am I in a bathtub?’ she thought, her mind spinning.

She snapped awake, her heart pounding.

Bits and pieces of last night started coming back to her.

‘Did that creepy old man really drug me?’ Natasha thought, her stomach twisting in disgust.

Jared had suddenly appeared and saved her.

Now she was lying in a cold bathtub, Jared must’ve used this to try and flush the drug out of her system.

A gentle warmth washed over her heart.

Jared hadn’t taken advantage of her.

After she’d turned him down, he never tried to take advantage, not even when she was at her weakest.

The drug was almost out of Natasha’s system, and the worst was over, but she still felt totally wiped out.

She was so weak, she could barely move a muscle.

If she stayed in the bathtub any longer, she’d probably get sick for sure.

Natasha braced herself against the edge of the tub, trying to sit up.

But her limbs were so weak, she nearly collapsed back into the water.

Then, a pair of strong hands caught her by the waist, steadying her.

Natasha turned her head, still dazed and confused.

To her shock, Jared’s handsome face was right there, so close she could almost feel his breath. He looked absolutely exhausted, but still impossibly good-looking.

“Why are you here?”

She couldn’t help but ask, her voice still a little shaky.

What I really want to ask is, why hasn’t Jared left yet?’ Natasha wondered.

She thought for sure that after he saved her last night, he’d put her in the tub and walk away.

After all, they had nothing to do with each other anymore.

He didn’t owe her anything, saving her was already more than she could ask for.

But seeing how exhausted he looked, it was obvious he’d stayed by her side the whole night.
