Chapter 11 Withholding Her Wifely Duties

Chapter 11 Withholding Her Wifely Duties

Hearing the blatant flirtation confirmed Natasha’s suspicions.

Nicolas definitely hadn’t recognized her as his future sister-in-law. Before she could even open her mouth, Jared shot Nicolas a lethal glare.

“Aren’t you leaving?” Jared growled, his voice thick with icy annoyance.

Nicolas dug his heels in, clearly in no rush to back off. “I just got here, man. Can’t you let me chat with your smoking hot secretary for two seconds?”

Jared’s chiseled jaw clenched as his handsome face darkened. “No time for flirting. She’s on the clock.

Catching the heavy testosterone flaring in the room, Natasha tactfully excused herself. “I’ll get back to work, Mr. Rundell She turned on her heels to leave. Every step of the way, she could feel Nicolas’s hungry gaze practically licking down her

curves.

Jared took a harsh swig of his coffee, completely irritated.

He watched her sway toward the door, his mind racing. ‘Does this woman have to be so irresistible to every guy in the room?

A split second later, his handsome face contorted in disgust.

“Get back here!” he barked.

Natasha had no choice but to scurry right back to his desk.

“Natasha, what the hell kind of coffee is this?” Jared demanded, looking thoroughly pissed.

His sudden outburst made her flinch.

‘Does he really hate my coffee that much?’ She silently fumed. ‘Even if it tastes like shit, he doesn’t need to bite my head off.

‘I’m even his secretary. How the hell am I supposed to know how he takes his brew?’

Seeing her look so submissive and wronged instantly triggered Nicolas’s savior complex.

He smoothly stepped in to play the hero. “Jesus, Jared, it’s just a cup of coffee. Do you really need to bust her balls over it? If you don’t want it, give it to me. We can’t let a gorgeous woman’s sweet efforts go to waste.”

He snatched the mug from Jared’s desk and took a cocky gulp, only to nearly choke on the sickening sweetness. “Damn, sweetheart, did you dump the whole fucking sugar bowl in here?” Nicolas asked, his mouth twitching as he swallowed it down.

If his own secretary had messed up a simple coffee this badly, he would have canned her on the spot.

Jared had actually gone easy on her.

Natasha stood there, totally mortified.

She suddenly remembered exactly what happened in the breakroom. Dorothy had texted her some juicy tabloid gossip right as she was brewing the pot.

She was so distracted reading about Joelle getting caught swapping spit and dry-humping Percy in public that she must have mindlessly scooped way too much sugar into the mug.

“I am so sorry, Mr. Rundell. I’ll make a fresh pot right now.” She grabbed the mug back and practically sprinted for the door.

But right before slipping out, she couldn’t resist letting her eyes linger on Nicolas.

A bitter little smirk touched her lips. ‘They aren’t even hitched yet, and that Joelle is already getting railed by someone else.’

She never expected a rich playboy like him to end up getting cheated on, exactly like she had.

Honestly, that twisted reality check made Natasha feel a hell of a lot better about her own pathetic love life.

But her blatant staring didn’t slip by either of the men. Nicolas entirely caught her checking him out, and worse, Jared noticed it too.

Jared’s eyes narrowed, his face growing visibly thunderous.

“You can get the fuck out now,” Jared growled, kicking Nicolas out for the second time.

“Chill out, I just walked in. Besides, I think your sexy little secretary is totally into me. I wouldn’t mind getting her out of those office clothes and getting to know her better,” Nicolas bragged, high on his own inflated ego.

When Natasha had shot him that final coy look, he swore his heart started hammering against his ribs.

He felt a sudden rush of lust. ‘How long has it been since I felt a wild spark like that?’

“She’s married,” Jared warned. His low, lethal tone promised violence. “Are you planning on playing the home wrecker?”

The disappointment hit Nicolas like a physical blow. “What? Married? How the hell is a beauty like that already tied down?” He had finally stumbled across a wet dream of a woman who gave him instant, pure lust at first sight, only to find out she was already taken.

Jared ruthlessly dropped another reality check. “Even if she wasn’t married, your own wedding is just around the corner.” Nicolas let out a string of dirty curses. “Oh hell.”

Jared really knew exactly how to kill his boner.

Just the thought of being chained down in his impending marriage to Joelle gave him a massive headache/instantly draining whatever excitement he had left.

Natasha strolled back into the office with a fresh cup of dark roast, but Nicolas was already gone.

She leaned over to set the steaming mug on Jared’s desk, casually asking, “Did Mr. Milford take off?”

Jared scowled. His dark, piercing gaze swept over her. “You got the hots for him?”

She scoffed internally. ‘As if. Nicolas is practically my brother-in-law.’

She just hadn’t expected to see him lurking in the executive suite. It was obvious he and Jared ran in the same billionaire circles and were pretty tight.

“No!” Natasha shook her head quickly.

Jared shot her a heavy, lingering look. “Good,” he emphasized. “Because he’s engaged, and he is crazy about his fiancée.” Natasha bit her lip, completely speechless. A wave of confusion hit her. ‘Did I get my facts completely wrong?

‘Hasn’t Nicolas been fighting this arranged marriage with Joelle since day one? Since when is he so head over heels for her?

In the evening, Natasha walked into her apartment after a brutal shift, totally shocked to find Percy actually home.

“You’re back,” she said.

In the past, going a couple of days without seeing Percy would have left her desperate for him.

She probably would have thrown herself at him the second he walked through the door.

Tonight, however, Natasha felt nothing but ice in her veins, giving him a flat greeting.

The image of him shoving his tongue down Joelle’s throat at the club last night was burned into her brain.

Percy had never shown that kind of raw, animalistic lust toward Natasha.

She used to think he was just naturally vanilla in bed.

Now she knew the harsh, bitter truth. He just didn’t give a damn about her.

Without giving him a second glance, Natasha turned on her heel and strutted straight to her bedroom.

Percy froze, completely thrown off. This wasn’t the desperate Natasha he was used to dealing with.

Usually, if he didn’t come home for two nights, she would be clinging to him like a needy puppy, begging for his attention and peppering him with questions.

But today, she acted like he didn’t even exist.

His mind raced. ‘Did she see the blind item about me and Joelle?

‘But they didn’t even catch my face in those shots. Even if she saw it, she shouldn’t have any reason to think it was me.’

A dark, nasty mood swirled in his eyes. He waited in the living room for a while, but Natasha never emerged to cater to him. Finally, he stalked over to her bedroom door and knocked hard. “Are you gonna make dinner or what?”

Natasha had cooked every single meal since they tied the knot.

Because Percy was a bastard child and she was the black sheep of her wealthy family, their trust funds didn’t exactly cover maids or personal chefs.

Natasha had been playing the good little housewife, doing all the scrubbing, laundry, and cooking.

Percy was completely spoiled, used to coming home to a hot meal for him.

But today, she’d been home for ages, holed up in her room without the slightest intention of stepping foot in the kitchen.

“I already ordered DoorDash,” Natasha replied flatly through the door.

She simply couldn’t pretend everything was peachy and go back to playing the submissive little wife.

Percy scowled, disgust flashing across his gorgeous face. “DoorDash?”

Natasha threw the door open, arching an eyebrow. “I know you hate takeout, so I didn’t get you any.”

Percy was stunned into total silence. His jaw clenched. ‘Is she seriously telling me to figure out my own dinner?’

Natasha took a slow step closer to him, letting her eyes drag over him. “Oh, by the way, I forgot to mention. I got a promotion. I’m the CEO’s executive assistant now.

“My hours are gonna be brutal, so my cooking days are over. Grab your own dinner out. Oh, and your dirty boxers? You can wash them yourself.”

Percy stared at her, completely floored. His first thought was that Natasha was seriously going on strike.

Then, a wave of hot, toxic anger hit him. ‘Being on her knees and serving him are her basic duties as a wife. She used to do it all so happily. How the hell can she just cut me off like this?’
