Finding a sister like that was really not something I had expected.

I had thought I would have to personally go into werewolf territory to find my sister, which was going to be incredibly difficult.

But I was ready for it. I just didn't know how I was going to do it.

I was so glad Madeline had gotten curious enough to chase me all the way down.

And now I was also the sister-in-law of the new president.

That was beyond amazing, and I was so happy until my eyes landed on Daniel and my sister.

They were standing quite far apart.

Daniel was holding a wineglass and staring directly at my sister while she sat with Yuvonne and her children, catching up on everything.

We'd had a whole day of meetings and talked about everything.

Then, finally, my sister's enemy, Kaylee, arrived.

Everyone briefly disappeared before coming back out to sit down.

My attention remained on Daniel and the way he was watching my sister.

Then I glanced into the distance and noticed Baxter standing with Ron and one of the guards.

They were giving him some kind of update, but I could tell that his eyes were on Daniel and Madeline.

So it wasn't just me noticing it.

Daniel started walking around the couch before leaning down to whisper something into Madeline's ear, and the hair on the back of my neck stood up.

My fist clenched as I quickly put my files into my bag, getting ready to go home.

I watched Madeline excuse herself from Yuvonne and get up from the couch, leaving her two children with her.

Yuvonne immediately began joking and playing with the children.

Gina and Elara were the cutest, and I couldn't wait to meet Bodhi.

But what worried me was that my attention kept drifting back to Daniel and Madeline.

Madeline stepped aside, and Daniel followed her.

The two of them started walking toward the exit, so Daniel was probably telling her that he was ready to leave.

I rushed out ahead of them, my bag strap over my shoulder.

I thought I had made it out of the house first, but they stopped right at the gate, apparently not realizing I was standing off to the side, hidden behind the door.

I decided to act casual while listening to their conversation.

"You did a really great job today," I heard Madeline say to Daniel.
