The Stanley heir
Amber POV
Alexander Vincent made a move none of us expected.
He didn’t attack our companies.
He didn’t target our investors.
He didn’t spread another rumor about Jason or me.
He went after Iris.
The news broke just before noon.
Every major media outlet carried the same headline.
“The Lost Stanley Heiress Finally Identified.” 1
I froze as I read the article.
They had publicly exposed Iris.
Not only her name.
Not only her face.
They had published her family history, her inheritance, and her connection to the Stanley family.
Within minutes my phone began ringing nonstop.
The school called first.
Then Mrs. Sun.
Then the security team.
Then Governor Henry.
I didn’t hesitate.
“Jason!”
He was already running toward me, his own phone pressed against his ear.
“I know.”
“We’re getting the children.”
We arrived at the academy less than twenty minutes later.
Security had already locked down the campus.
Mrs. Sun was waiting at the entrance.
“I’ve moved Iris to my office,” she said immediately. “No reporters have gotten inside.”
I nodded gratefully.

The
“Thank you.”
hurried through the halls.
When Iris saw us, she immediately stood.
“I’m sorry.”
The apology caught me off guard.
“For what?”
“They’re doing this because of me.”
I crossed the room and hugged her before she could say another word.
“They’re doing this because they’re afraid.”
She buried her face against my shoulder.
“They don’t get to decide who you are.”
Jason quietly spoke with the security team while I stayed beside Iris.
Just then another voice interrupted us.
“Please… wait.”
We all turned.
Standing in the doorway was Francis Owens.
He looked as though he had run all the way across campus.
His tie was crooked, his hair a mess, and he was breathing heavily.
“I need to come with you.”
Jason immediately stepped in front of us.
“No.”
Francis looked directly at Iris.
“I have to explain.”
Iris looked confused.
“What?”
He swallowed hard.
“I knew there was a Stanley heir.”
The room became silent.
“I didn’t know…”
His eyes met hers.

“…it was you.”
Jason’s expression darkened.
“What exactly are you talking about?”
Francis took a shaky breath.
“My engagement.”
Iris frowned.
“I thought you were engaged to someone from the Vinny family.”
“I was told I was.”
He laughed bitterly.
“I wasn’t.”
“The documents only said the Stanley heir.”
He looked at Iris again.
“The Vincents arranged it years ago.
“They never told me your name.”
“They never showed me your picture.”
“They only told me I would eventually marry the Stanley heir.”
I felt my stomach twist.
“So when you started asking Iris questions…”
He nodded miserably.
“I was trying to figure out if she was the Stanley heir.”
Another pause.
“And…”
He looked ashamed.
“I was trying to find a way out of the engagement.”
Jason crossed his arms.
“So you used my daughter.”
Francis didn’t argue.
“I know how it looks.”
“It isn’t fair.”
“I liked Iris.”

“I still do.”
But I needed answers.”
He lowered his head.
“My family doesn’t own anything anymore.” Jason frowned.
“What do you mean?”
Francis laughed without humor.
“The Owens family exists only on paper.”
“The companies belong to the Vincents.”
“The money belongs to the Vincents.”
“The decisions belong to the Vincents.”
“My father still has the title of head of the Owens family.”
He looked exhausted.
“But we’re heirs to nothing.”
“The Vincents own everything.”
Silence settled over the room.
The reality was worse than we imagined.
Alexander Vincent wasn’t creating alliances.
He was assigning people.
Moving families around like pieces on a chessboard.
Iris suddenly spoke.
“I think…”
She looked at me..
“I think someone has been following me.”
Jason immediately turned toward her.
“What?”
