Asher corp
Amber POV
My grandfather called me the morning after we finalized the Sum travel arrangements.
Not as my grandfather.
As Chairman Asher.
“Come to the company tomorrow.”
No greeting.
No buildup.
Straight to business.
I leaned back against the kitchen counter while watching Jason argue with Alex over whether “tactical backpacks were appropriate for a family trip.
“I already manage Phoenix Ashes,” I reminded him carefully.
“And you manage it well,” my grandfather replied immediately. “But Phoenix Ashes is still only one part of the Asher influence.”
A pause.
“As my granddaughter and heir, you will eventually be expected to help manage Asher Corp directly.”
That made me go quiet.
Because despite everything that had happened recently…
Despite the investigations, the Vincents, the Beckers, the White family-
There was still an empire waiting behind my grandfather’s name.
And one day…
It would become mine.
“I’ve allowed you freedom because I knew you needed to build something of your own,” he continued more softly. “But it is time the board becomes familiar with the reality of who you are.”
Not the orphaned girl they ignored.
Not the quiet granddaughter hidden behind Phoenix Ashes.
The heir.
“I’ll be there tomorrow,” I said finally.
The call ended shortly afterward.
Jason looked toward me immediately.
“That sounded ominous.”
“It probably is.”

He smiled faintly.
Need backup?
I considered it seriously.
Then shook my head.
“No.”

A pause.
“I think this is something I need to do alone.”
Jason studied me carefully for several seconds before nodding once.
“Then remind them who they’re dealing with.”
The next morning, I arrived at Asher Corp.
The building stood in the absolute center of the city like a declaration of power.
A massive skyscraper of dark glass and silver architecture rising fifteen stories above the financial district.
Elegant.
Cold.
Untouchable.
The very top of the building contained one of the city’s most famous private scenic gardens.
A place reserved for executive meetings, high-profile negotiations, and charity galas attended by people powerful enough to reshape markets over dinner.
I had visited the building before as a child.
Back when everyone still saw me as the quiet orphan following behind my grandfather silently.
Now, however, I walked through the main entrance as something entirely different.
Adrian accompanied me.
Mostly because he claimed he wanted to “watch the chaos.”
“You’re enjoying this too much,” I muttered while we crossed the polished marble lobby.
“A little,” Adrian admitted shamelessly.
The reception staff noticed him immediately.
Their expressions brightened at once.
“Mr. Adrian!” one of the associates greeted warmly. “We weren’t informed you were visiting today.”
Adrian smiled politely.
“Last-minute decision.”
Their eyes shifted toward me almost instantly afterward.

And the atmosphere changed completely.
Curiosity.
Dismissal.
Judgment.
I recognized it immediately.
The silent social calculation wealthy corporate environments perfected.
Who is she?
Does she matter?
Should we care?
Unfortunately for them-
No one recognized me.
Phoenix Ashes kept me surprisingly separated from traditional corporate society.
Most people knew my name.
Very few actually knew my face.
One of the younger associates leaned subtly toward another woman near the front desk.
Not subtle enough.
“Is she his new girlfriend?” she whispered quietly.
Another woman glanced toward me briefly before shrugging.
“Probably.”
“She’s pretty enough.”
I nearly laughed.
Beside me, Adrian suddenly looked deeply entertained.
The traitor.
One of the senior executives finally approached us with a polished corporate smile.
“Mr. Adrian,” he greeted warmly before glancing toward me with obvious assumption. “And who is your guest?”
I opened my mouth to answer.
Adrian beat me to it immediately.
“My cousin.”
The executive nodded absently.
Still dismissive.

Still unconcerned.
Then Adriati added casually-
“And the Asher heir.”
Silence.
Absolute silence.
The color drained from the man’s face so quickly it was almost impressive.
The nearby associates froze completely.
One woman nearly dropped her tablet.
I smiled pleasantly.
“Good morning.”
The atmosphere changed instantly.
People straightened.
Voices lowered.
Eyes widened.
And suddenly everyone in the lobby understood the same horrifying thing simultaneously.
The woman they had mistaken for Adrian’s latest conquest-
Owned the building they were standing in.
