A Woman Worth Billions Dated the Wrong Brother novel Chapter 208

Exit strategy

Amber POV

Jason arrived at my office before I even made it to the parking garage.

The moment the elevator doors opened, he stepped out already moving toward me, dark suit slightly disheveled, – expression sharp enough to make nearby employees scatter instinctively.

“We’re pulling them out now,” he said immediately.

No greeting.

No hesitation.

Pure instinct.

“I’m already going,” I replied while grabbing my coat from Clara’s hands.

“No.”

The word came fast. Absolute.

I froze briefly. 1

Jason stepped closer immediately, lowering his voice the moment he noticed employees nearby pretending not to listen.

“I’ll get the children.”

His jaw was tight enough to hurt.

“You are not placing yourself in danger if the Vincents are making a move.”

I stared at him for a second, understanding exactly where this was coming from.

Not control.

Fear.

Because if the Vincents recognized Iris-

Or connected her to us-

Things could escalate very quickly.

“Jason,” I said carefully, “I’ve been the one picking them up from school for weeks.”

He frowned immediately.

“And?”

“And suddenly sending armed security or having you appear personally changes the pattern.”

His expression darkened further because he already knew I was right.

“We need to maintain the image that everything is normal,” I continued quietly. “No panic. No sudden changes.”

Jason ran a hand through his hair roughly, pacing once before stopping again directly in front of me.

“I hate this.”

know.”

“I should be the one protecting them.”

The honesty in his voice hurt.

Because he truly believed that every threat against us was somehow his responsibility to stop personally.

I stepped closer and took his hand briefly.

“You are protecting them,” I said softly. “By not letting them realize we’re afraid.”

Jason closed his eyes for half a second.

When he opened them again, the panic had buried itself beneath cold calculation.

Reluctantly-

He nodded once.

“I’ll monitor the Vincent movements,” he said quietly. “If this visit has another purpose, I’ll find it.”

That was the frightening thing about Jason.

The moment emotion stopped driving him, strategy took over completely.

My phone rang before I could answer him.

The school.

Jason’s entire body tensed instantly as I accepted the call.

“Mrs. Sun?” the school nurse asked carefully.

“Yes?”

“We believe Alex may have chicken pox.”

I blinked.

“What?”

Beside me, Jason looked equally stunned.

“He can’t stop scratching,” the nurse explained quickly. “And several red spots appeared on his arms and legs.”

I stared into space for a second before realization hit me so suddenly I almost laughed.

Alex.

That little menace.

Of course he committed fully to the mission.

“I see…” I replied carefully, maintaining a serious tone with great effort.

The nurse lowered her voice sympathetically.

“We isolated him temporarily, but considering he lives with other children…”

videned my eyes dramatically despite her not being able to see me.

“Oh no.”

Jason turned away abruptly.

His shoulders were shaking slightly.

He was laughing silently.

I kicked his shoe lightly.

“I actually have four children living together,” I continued seriously into the phone. “Alex, Alice, Rose, and Iris”

The nurse audibly panicked.
