"Fairfax, our oldest brother is already dead," Susanna said, her voice trembling. "I can't bear to lose anyone else."
No matter how chaotic things had gotten with Starla before, she had never actually wanted them dead. But Yardley Hoggart was an entirely different breed of monster.
"He's a psychopath!" Fairfax yelled.
"I know."
Exactly. He was a psychopath. And that was exactly why she couldn't leave her family in his clutches any longer than necessary.
Even though they had fought so hard to escape Yoran Country, she had no choice but to go back.
In the end, they had still let someone down...
"I just feel so awful about Starla," Susanna whispered, the guilt tearing at her chest. Neither of them had expected that pushing Starla forward that day would result in losing her completely.
At the mention of Starla's name, Fairfax stiffened, raw agony flashing across his features.
No one knew just how much he was suffering! The grief was a suffocating weight he carried every single second.
...
Meanwhile, in Smaro Town.
Herbert Farley had taken it upon himself to cook for Starla. She genuinely hated the local cuisine, but she was also incredibly stubborn about refusing any favors from him.
Herbert, however, had the patience of a saint when it came to her.
"No matter how angry you are with me, you can't just stop taking care of your body," he coaxed gently.
Starla glared at him.
Angry?
Was that really the word he was going with? Her icy stare made Herbert's chest tighten.
"Starla..."
"I can cook for myself," she said coldly.
"Alright. Once you're fully recovered, you can make whatever you want."
Right now, Herbert catered to her every whim. Whatever Starla wanted, Starla got.
She hadn't been eating well for days and had visibly lost weight, looking entirely too fragile.
After a brief internal struggle, she realized that fighting Herbert right now was a losing battle.
"What do you mean?"
Another impossible choice? Just hearing the word 'choice' made Starla's temples throb.
"Yardley has the Yelchin family, and he's demanding Fairfax trade Susanna for them."
"Will he do it?"
"No. He's vehemently against it."
Hearing the word 'vehemently', Starla couldn't help but let out a dry, bitter laugh.
"Of course. They're Yelchins. I'm sure it's an agonizing choice for him."
It was nothing like when he had to choose between her and his family. He hadn't hesitated to throw her to the wolves. But now that it was his own flesh and blood on both sides? How tragic for him.
Her face remained completely devoid of emotion as she listened.
"I'm very curious to see what he ultimately decides," Herbert mused.
Let him choose. And ideally, let him choose Susanna, just so Starla could be reminded once again of the hypocrite Fairfax truly was.

Hahaha This plot of story i hate about, choosing another girl instead of your own wife is something unreal, you didnt considered your wife feeling, you didnt even trust her and later on you will say sorry?? Was sorry will fixed everything you've done? Was sorry fixed her heart? it was unfair for your wife, you must choose your wife whatever it is. You know your wife well more than anyone else and the only person she should lean on was the person who pushes her away...
