Bernard cracked a wry smile and ruffled his hair, "Knives, guns, race cars, ships, or planes—what do you want to learn first?"
Bright eyes brimming with curiosity, Damian looked up at Bernard. "Dad, are you going to start teaching me all these things?"
Bernard leaning back on the couch replied nonchalantly, "You've got the book smarts down pretty well. It's time to learn some self-defence skills. One day, you'll take over my duties, looking after your mom."
Damian tilted his head, a puzzled expression on his face. "But Dad, aren't you always by Mom's side? Why would I need to protect her?"
Bernard, who was starting to feel a headache coming on, didn't divulge the issue with the chip in his brain. Instead, he reassured his son, "I'm wrapped up in perfecting a robot and it's taking up a lot of my time. I want you to be able to protect her when I'm not around."
Thinking that Bernard was indeed busy with his robotics research, Damian nodded solemnly, "Don't worry. Once I've mastered the skills, I'll make sure Mom is safe."
With his son's promise, Bernard pushed himself off the couch. "Let's start with shooting."
Damian got up and followed, reminiscing, "I remember playing with a gun when I was three. You grounded me for that. I thought you didn't want me to touch guns anymore."
Bernard was surprised the kid remembered such a minor incident. "You were too young then, of course, I wouldn't let you near a gun."
"I'm only ten now, not that much older. Why are you okay with it now?" Damian asked with genuine curiosity.
Bernard's stride slowed as he turned to face his son, who was almost hip-high now. "You're about to go abroad for school. By the time you come back, it would be too late to start learning."
Damian, a child prodigy, had secured his place at a top international academy. So, at his tender age, he was already gearing up to journey into the unknown and compete with other young geniuses.
Bernard went to his study, retrieved a gun he hadn't used in a decade, and led Damian to the backyard. Aidyn had been informed about the shooting lesson and had already set up targets on the lawn.
Scott had measured out the distances, marked the safety lines, and brought over ear protectors for Damian, joking, "When you fire that first shot, make sure to aim properly. If you accidentally hit Aidyn, his wife won't be able to save him in time..."
A rare smile lit up Damian's flawless face, "Scott, at least Aidyn has a doctor wife who can save him. But if it were you..."
Perpetually single, Scott quickly raised his hand to stop Damian, "Hold it right there. I enjoy the bachelor life, okay? No strings attached, just living it up..."
Aidyn, sauntering over from the other side of the lawn, teased, "I wonder which lone wolf calls me in the middle of the night, asking my wife to set him up with a pretty doctor..."

Loved the story, many times caught in so much actually crying with the situation. Wish had more chapters to a better ending....
It's weird that the story went from narrative to slang use. Good story so far though...
