At the Lowell Group, Cora learned that Joseph had gone fishing by the river again. Since Ella was still keeping an eye on him, she didn’t think much of it.

When Frank showed up, Cora started to panic. “Why did you come here unannounced? A lot of people are trying to find out about our relationship.”

“People have been speculating for a long time. If you suddenly start hiding and acting defensive, it’s only going to look like an admission of guilt. It’s better if we just carry on as usual and keep our interactions completely normal.”

“You came all the way here just to say that? If there’s nothing else, you should leave.”

“It’s not a big deal. I came to show my presence. We can go out for drinks tonight.” 1

“Not these days, I need to go home.”

“That doctor of yours must be utterly miserable lately. He raised Nat for so many years, only for her to deny him as her father and acknowledge me instead. Oh, by the way, Cora, whose daughter is Nat?”

“She’s my husband’s daughter,” Cora answered.

“Really? I heard that your husband tried to file for divorce over the paternity issue. If you hadn’t suppressed the matter, the public would probably be talking about it by now.”

“Don’t bring that up again. Is it even possible that I-Nat’s biological mother-don’t know who fathered my child?”

“That’s true. You’re not that foolish. Since I’m here, why don’t you share who’s really pulling the strings

behind all this?”

“I’m not sure yet, but I trust my instincts.”

“I trust you. I’ve made quite a fortune following you over the years. Oh, right. Where’s the carp? Are you still raising it?”

“Have an expert choose a good spot at your place first. Keep it there for now. Once things at home settle down, I’ll move it back.”

Frank felt like Joseph was no threat at all. He coughed lightly and said, “Joseph, Cora and I are good friends, but I can count on one hand the number of times we’ve actually met.”

Joseph didn’t respond. He simply stood there smoking.

Frank continued, “But you killed my carp, wrote articles attacking my farm, and even sent Nat to cause trouble at my company and ruin my reputation. If you weren’t Cora’s husband, I would’ve thrown you into the river already.”

Joseph replied coldly, “Only because I’m Cora’s husband? Wait a little longer. I’ll be divorcing her soon. After that, you can throw me into the river whenever you want.”

Joseph glanced at Frank, and countless ways to take him apart flashed through his mind. Instead of curing people, he was using his medical skills to kill.

As a doctor, Joseph was a master of human anatomy. He knew the location of vital organs and how much damage it took to end a life.
