Cora sized up Joseph and Yara, then fixed her eyes on Joseph. “Dr. Jebb, you really are one dedicated doctor, aren’t you?”

“Ignore her. Let’s just go eat!” Yara said, sounding clearly jealous and annoyed.

Cora was just too gorgeous, and since Yara believed she couldn’t compete, she was worried her “boyfriend” might be attracted to her.

“Sure thing, Yara!”

Joseph didn’t even bother greeting Cora and the others. He simply wheeled Yara straight toward their reserved private dining room.

After a pleasant meal, Joseph took Yara back to the Traditional Medicine Center. Since Skylar still couldn’t be taken off the ventilator to speak, Yara skipped the visit and just went straight back to her room to rest.

Gemma pulled Joseph aside for another brainstorming session. Joseph would “just happen” to find some useful information, and with his hints, Gemma was able to piece together a viable treatment plan. By 10:00 pm, they successfully removed Skylar’s breathing tube.

“It’ll take about four days for his vocal cords to recover enough to talk in his current condition,” Joseph noted.

“Just being alive is a godsend at this point!”

Gemma nodded. Seeing that Skylar’s condition had stabilized, a look of genuine relief washed over her face. Joseph mused, “A godsend? Or maybe just the beginning of twice the suffering.”

After Natalie hounded him relentlessly, Joseph finally threw her a bone, telling her that she could contract the same kind of poison Frank had suffered from.

Natalie wasn’t an idiot, so she instantly cursed him out, “Frank ended up dead! Are you trying to get me killed by making me do something stupid like some dumb pig?”

“Well, at least you’ve got a little more sense than a pig.”

“Then figure something out fast! Otherwise, you’re just a useless piece of trash, and you can kiss my money goodbye.”

“What’s the rush? Your dad may have woken up, but his throat needs at least four days to recover after being intubated. He won’t be able to speak before then.”

“Then you have four days to come up with a way for me to get ‘sick’ safely.”

“Getting sick comes with risks. You could think of another way. You don’t necessarily have to get sick yourself. If you think your mom is the one keeping you trapped, why not make her sick instead?”

“Damn, Henry Jebb. You really have zero morals when there’s money on the line, huh?”

“Heh, pot calling the kettle black much? Neither of us is in a position to judge,” Joseph shot back.

That night, he went out with Gemma and invited Jenna to join them for dinner, hoping it would bring them

Two days later, Joseph was slacking off in the general office when he noticed a new critical emergency admission from the night before. It was Mona.

He went to the room to take a look. Mona was hooked up to all kinds of life-support equipment, yet even all those machines seemed unable to stop her condition from deteriorating.

The features on her face were still relatively intact, and they struck Joseph with an increasingly nagging sense of familiarity. He definitely knew this woman.

Suddenly, a thought popped into his head. He needed to keep her alive so he could figure out who she was later.

Letting an acquaintance die when he had the power to save them was the kind of thing that could get one struck by lightning!

He checked out the attending doctor. It was one of Reuben’s students. The guy was competent but not particularly skilled. Seizing a moment when no one was looking, Joseph made his move.
