A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 288

Chapter 288

Belinda didn’t stay for long since Joseph was very busy.

Once he finished handling a critical patient in his department, he went on to reassure the patient’s family. After he had a sip of water, he called Grace and made some small talk with her before asking to speak with Mavis, as usual.

Joseph was asking about the 120-year-old elder of the Zahn family. “Since you’re in Jenton, why didn’t you visit the elder of the Zahn family?

“I’ve been a doctor for years, and this is the first time I’ve ever heard of someone living to such an age. I’d really like to see what he’s like.”

“You mean Owen Zahn? Have you met him?” Mavis was slightly perplexed.

“Who am I to visit him? One of the Zahns died, and the Zahn medical sect is blaming Jenton University Hospital.

“Since I was placed under investigation too, I looked into the Zahns. Still, they can’t just pin the blame on someone over something that never happened.”

“I do wish to meet Owen Zahn, but he refused to see me. Perhaps he thinks I’m not worthy of meeting him.”

Mavis let out a self-deprecating chuckle before continuing, “They placed you under investigation too? Is that all it is?

“If you run into trouble, just give me a call. I’ll send someone to help you.”

If Joseph gave Mavis a call, he would owe her a favor. He would have no reason to turn down her next invitation to Croma.

That, he understood perfectly, so he said, “Yes, it’s just an investigation. They’re trying to make things difficult for us, but they won’t go overboard. Relax. I can handle my own problems.”

They chatted a while longer before ending the call.

Just then, Joseph heard a rush of footsteps outside. There was a knock, and Paige entered, reporting that the state health inspection team had arrived at the department.

“Why haven’t I heard anything about this?”

Joseph was taken aback. He immediately phoned Mason, who said he had no idea what was going on. Besides, the man was currently in a meeting with the government officials.

An inspection? He should have been informed in advance.

Joseph realized Dave had been called away to a meeting too. It was probably not a coincidence.

Joseph ordered the department’s senior staff to continue prioritizing emergency care for the critically ill patients. He then had the administrative staff receive the inspection team and direct them to the office area, keeping them out of the treatment area.

Later, Joseph learned that only a deputy director from the health inspection team was coming. Since it was just a low-ranking official, Joseph was even less inclined to show his face.

Once he stepped out of the treatment area, he was immediately surrounded by patients’ family members, asking about their loved ones’ condition. He then showed them to his office and went over each patient’s case with them one by one.

The last person who came in took him by surprise a little. But seeing how unsteady her steps were, he felt it was

all on her.

It was Jenna. Her already slender face looked thinner than ever, and she appeared very weak.

Thanks to Joseph, she had been suffering from dysentery for three days and was on the verge of collapsing from exhaustion.

Still, Jenna was a doctor too. In the end, she managed to treat her condition and stop the dysentery. So now she had come to the hospital to settle the score with Joseph.

Joseph spoke first. “Jenna, you’ve got some nerve coming back to the hospital. How dare you pin Barry’s death on the hospital and me?

“You even had your family put me under investigation. I’ve never seen anyone go that far-even a traitor.”

“Joseph, I want to challenge you. Let’s see who’s better at medicine. Oh, and poison too! I’ll poison your friends and family.

“If you can’t neutralize the poison, then they’re as good as dead!” Jenna said coldly, her voice filled with resentment and spite.

“Jenna, are you nuts? I could call the cops for this…”

“Call the cops? What good will that even do? Do you even have proof?” With a sneer, Jenna waved at Joseph and walked out.

Suddenly, Paige knocked on the door, saying that one of the nurses was foaming at the mouth and convulsing violently.

“Is this how it begins?”

Since Joseph had no choice but to save that nurse first, he ordered someone to stop Jenna from leaving.
