When Helen came to pick up the children, she looked a little dissatisfied. “I saw Joseph’s car just now. Since he’s home, why didn’t you have him send the children to school?”

Cora answered, “He’s busy. If I did that, he’d just get the housekeeper to send them.”

Helen scoffed. “He’s become so disobedient. What are you even keeping him around for? Kick him out.”

Cora sighed. “Mom, not this again. We’ve been married for more than ten years. How could I just throw that away? Right, and things are finally starting to ease up between us. Make sure you and Dad don’t provoke him anymore. This family can’t function without him.”

Helen snorted. “I think you’re the one who can’t live without him. It’s not like Jenton’s short on men. Just find one that’s healthy and can satisfy you. What’s the point of love? There are plenty of fish in the sea.”

Cora shook her head. “Just listen to yourself. Mom, you’ve been talking a lot more lately. Be careful. Keep saying things like that, and they’ll start affecting the way you think and behave sooner or later.”

Helen glared at Cora. “And who do you think is causing all that? If you don’t like hearing me talk, then fine. I’ll just go get the children.”

After seeing Helen and the children off, Cora thought for a moment before sending Lacey a message, asking her to see Joseph.

At the same time, something had been weighing on Cora’s mind. Grace hadn’t left Jenton and had even brought in additional manpower.

After weighing her options, she decided to call Grace. “Grace, why won’t you listen to me?”

Grace replied, “Cora, you’ve already ruined my reputation. Even if I do go back, Mavis won’t accept me anymore. So I either have to establish myself here, or leave this place in a body bag.”

Cora smiled faintly. “That’s a little dramatic. How about we meet in the afternoon and discuss everything properly?”

Grace said, “Anytime, Cora. Right, please pass along my regards to Joseph. If I get the chance, I’ll go visit him again.”

After ending the call, Cora gathered her things and got into her car. There, she dialed another number with a different phone.

She said, “The people from Croma are being very aggressive.”

A voice on the other end replied, “You can’t fight enemies from the outside before you sort out your internal matters. Your husband is a variable.”

Cora shook her head. “Joseph won’t cause trouble. I can guarantee that.”

He leaned toward her and whispered something into her ear.

“Joseph, you…” Lacey was shocked.

Joseph shrugged. “Do what I asked first. Then come back to me. Honestly, this is better for Yvonne. She’s so ugly now that Cora will give up on her eventually. But if she recovers completely, Cora will simply send her off to someone else again. She’ll just end up suffering all over again.”

With that, Joseph waved Lacey off and had Paige order some lunch for him.

When Lacey got into the car with Yvonne, she told Yvonne about Joseph’s request.

Yvonne exploded. “What the hell is Joseph doing? Why does he insist on opposing Cora? What can he even gain from it? I’m calling her right now. Let’s see how he explains himself to her.”

Lacey stopped Yvonne and called Cora herself instead. “Cora, Yvonne wants to return to her hometown. She won’t stay in Jenton anymore. I’ll go talk to her.”

Yvonne’s eyes widened. “Lacey, are you betraying Cora? Do you understand what kind of consequences you’ll face? No, I can’t let you take such a huge risk because of me.”

Lacey smiled bitterly. “That’s simply our fate.”
