“Dr. Hart, are you alright?”

Paige entered, carrying a stack of documents that needed his signature. She couldn’t help but ask in concern when she saw Joseph sitting there, lost in thought.

Joseph snapped back to reality. “It’s nothing. I was just thinking through a treatment plan.”

After signing the paperwork, he handed it back and instructed her to continue with her duties.

Joseph was already a man with a ruined reputation, anyway. Why did he need to let his morality shackle him any further? Besides, Grace had asked for it herself.

Joseph knew perfectly well that Grace had deliberately used Cora’s infidelity to provoke him, and he had fallen for it.

What he hadn’t expected was the truth afterward. Grace was actually a virgin, which caused him to carry an inexplicable sense of guilt.

“Whatever comes later is a problem for later. No matter what price I have to pay, I won’t regret it. Not that I even have the right to regret it!” Joseph composed himself and continued on with his work. 1

At noon, Dave hosted a luncheon and invited Joseph along.

On the way back, however, he accidentally entered the wrong private room corridor. That mistake led him to a familiar figure, Mary, their old housekeeper.

Mary entered a room and walked right into a man’s embrace. The man openly wrapped an arm around her waist, and she did not object to his wandering hand. Their familiarity with each other suggested that they were obviously intimate.

Mary was with Frank, and from their behavior, they had clearly been involved for quite some time.

Frank’s mistress worked as a housekeeper at their house. There was definitely more to this story.

Quietly, Joseph raised his phone and snapped a photograph. But at that exact moment, someone bumped into him from behind.

His phone flew from his hand. Thankfully, his reflexes were quick enough, and he managed to catch it before it hit the floor.

Turning around, he saw a waiter carrying dishes into the room.

The brief commotion alerted the people inside, causing Frank and Mary to both look toward the doorway.

Joseph immediately began treatment. After several tense hours, he managed to stabilize Avery’s condition and pull her back from the brink of death. Once she was stable, he contacted a specialized burn hospital.

Then, when the Emergency Department attempted to transfer Jason into Intensive Care as well, Joseph arranged for both patients to be transferred together.

Burn specialists would provide better long-term treatment than his department could.

Not long after, Cora called again. This time, she was furious. “Joseph, why did you transfer them out? Bring them back immediately and continue treating them properly.”

Joseph’s expression darkened. “Cora, don’t interfere with my work!”

Cora said sharply, “They’re both part of the Lowell family. They’re our relatives, so don’t do anything stupid…”

When Cora noticed that Joseph had hung up on her, her gaze sharpened. “Joseph, Jason and Avery can’t die. Otherwise, you’ll be held responsible too!”
