Chapter 116
Joseph, Mom said you got hit by a car Are you alright?” Natalie asked upon rushing into the house Panic was written all over her face.
“Of course, I’m fine. If I were injured, I would already be in the hospital,” replied Joseph. He felt a little touched even though Natalie refused to address him as her father anymore.
“Are you really alright?” Natalie questioned. She looked Joseph over carefully from head to toe it was only after confirming that he wasn’t injured that she finally relaxed.
Then, Natalie complained. “You went all the way to question Marla, got yourself hit by a car, and still learned nothing. That’s pretty useless.”
“Nat, how could you say that? If you aren’t going to speak properly, go back to school! Your grades have already been slipping enough as it is,” Cora scolded upon hearing what Natalie had said.
"I'll go back to school then!” Natalie shouted before walking out and pointing at Fiona, ordering the latter to send her to school.
When they arrived at the school gates, Fiona parked the car. Noticing that Natalie remained seated, Fiona asked, “You still have something you want to tell me, right?”
“There are some things I didn’t tell Joseph or my mom. Marla told me that she was going to make Joseph pay for what he had done. At the time, I thought she was joking. I never imagined that she would actually arrange a car accident. She’s dangerous,” said Natalie.
Natalie knew that if she had said it in front of Cora, she might have been slapped on the spot. Keeping something this important to herself was irresponsible, and she knew it.
“Did Marla ever say how she planned to make Joseph pay?” Fiona asked, realizing how serious the situation was. She couldn’t help but feel worried about Joseph.
Natalie answered, “No. Back then, I didn’t like Joseph either. When Marla said she wanted him to suffer. part of me actually agreed with her. So, I didn’t object. I thought she would just make him lose money I never imagined she would arrange a car accident. She had gone too far
Mavis replied, “A friend of mine will be traveling to Jenton soon to see you. I hope you’ll be at your very best when treating him.”
1 see. You can send me the medical records and details of the condition first. Every illness requires a different approach. Whatever the situation, I’ll do everything I can,” Joseph said with a frown.
Someone who was friends with a woman of Mavis’ status would certainly have access to the finest medical resources available. If that person still intended to seek him out, those resources had likely already exhausted their options. In other words, he was being approached as a last resort.
I almost forgot about that. I’ll have someone deliver the files to you tomorrow,” stated Mavis. Before ending the call, she added, “Dr. Hart, don’t forget that you still have friends.”
Joseph put away his phone. The word ‘friends’ felt distant. These days, even the person closest to him, his wife, was someone he couldn’t fully trust. If that was the case, who could he trust?
Still, since Mavis had called him a friend, he was willing to find out how much that friendship was worth.
