A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 109

Chapter 109

At Lowell Group, Bernard ended his call with Walt and asked, “Cora, how can you help Walt keep his position?”

Cora was looking through a file on Joseph, which detailed a surgery he had performed at the Traditional Medicine Center. It was even named as one of Jenton’s top ten landmark surgeries. Even though she had no medical knowledge, she could still tell how difficult the procedure was.

“Walt’s old. He can choose between retirement or taking another position. I’ll also talk to Joseph and convince him to return to the hospital. I’ll have him take Walt’s place.”

“You want Joseph to become hospital director? Is he even qualified?”

“Under normal circumstances, no. But he has my support, and that’s enough.”

“Joseph’s been more defiant lately. If you put him in power, I don’t think he’ll listen to you.”

“I’ll talk him into it.” Cora couldn’t think of any reason Joseph would turn her down. After all, becoming a hospital director would be the pinnacle of his career.

Later, Wendy came to visit Joseph in person, bearing many gifts. She came across as very sincere, swallowing her pride as she requested him to return to the hospital and save Ernest. But Joseph didn’t fall for her act and turned her down, claiming he wasn’t capable enough, and had the housekeeper show her out.

Arthur from the Traditional Medicine Center also called Joseph to check on him before saying, ” Someone is trying to transfer Mr. Ashmore Senior to our hospital so you can perform the surgery. What do you think?”

“That patient is already at death’s door. Anyone who operates on him would be killing him. I’m not doing that.” A sneer curled on Joseph’s lips. Were they trying to take a roundabout approach?

“Dr. Hart, you’re just being too modest…”

“I’m not skilled enough for this. I really can’t take on this surgery. You know how risky it is. Don’t drag me into this.” Joseph ended the call.

Not long after, Marvin called Joseph. “Dr. Hart, thank you so much for your information. Walt has no place in the hospital anymore.

“He’ll be stepping down from his position soon and retiring. It’s been a pleasure working together. Haha!”

After ending the call, Joseph lit a cigarette and sent a surgical plan to Marvin.

Meanwhile, Marvin called in his trusted aides to go over Joseph’s plan.

“Joseph’s plan has a 95% success rate. Do you think we can achieve an 80% to 90% success rate?” Marvin looked at his subordinates, a questioning look in his eyes.

Once Marvin received confirmation, greed crept in. He decided to leave Joseph out of the surgery and carry it out himself.

Meanwhile, Cora visited Joseph’s laboratory and finally understood where the five million dollars had gone.

Back then, Joseph had helped her recover a debt and was paid five million dollars. He then looked around the Crest District, acquired a small, nearly bankrupt company, and renovated it into his own laboratory.

“You’re just in time. Check out my new place. How much would you like to invest in this?” Joseph looked at Cora with a smile.
