“With how hard you are staring at them, you might as well set them ablaze.” Kaia mutters, taking a bite of her pizza, her eyes flicking toward the table across the cafeteria, “tone that down before you accidentally burn them to the ground.”/

My grip tightened around the plastic fork in my hand until it bent slightly between my fingers. “That’s exactly what I want.” I said flatly, glaring hard as I can at Sophie and Landon across the room.

“And if my gaze could actually do anything, maybe it would get that bitch away from his side for once.” Kaia snorted.

Right across the cafeteria, Sophie topped her head back with a laugh, one hand resting on Landon’s arm like she fucking belong there, while Landon on the other hand, looks down at her with a smile, small and effortless. And something hot and ugly twisted in my chest.

God, I hated her

Actually, hate was too soft

I wanted to launch my tray at her head

“She’s always glued to him,” my voice was bitter, as the glare in my eyes intensifies. “Like can she even function without having to be two fucking seconds close to him.”

“Maybe she is emotionally dependent.”

“She is nothing more but a clingy bitch.”

“Who’s the bitch?”

The voice came from beside me, causing both Kaia and I to look up at the same time, and a surprise look flashes across our faces as Jace drops into the empty seat beside me like he had been invited over.

Which he absolutely had not

He leans back casually, stealing a fry from my tray before either of us could react, then his gaze lifted lazily from me to Kaia, then back to me again.

“What?”

My brows hitched together. “What are you doing here?”

“Having lunch.” He says ever so casually while chewing my fry with zero shame.

“Yeah, I know that, dumbass.” I deadpanned, “but why are you here, sitting beside us, is what I’d like to know.”

“You wound me sunshine,” he placed a hand over his chest, while Kaia lets out a chocking sound beside me, trying not to grin. “And here I was thinking we were past the hostility,” he continues in a dull sarcastic tone, “we did, after all, have a heart to heart at the party on Friday.”

“Ah..ah,” Kaia gasped loudly, like obnoxiously loud, her eyes snapping toward me as she pointed an accusing finger my way. “I knew it, I just knew it. The moment you disappeared right after the party,” her eyed widened. “You were there scubiddulling with Jace.”

“The fuck does scubiddulling even mean?” I stared at her blankly.

“It means suspicious activities.”

“It sounds more like a disease.”

She ignored me completely. “Seeing how you are trying to avoid the question, it only means you were.”

“First of all, you didn’t ask a question,” I scoffed, “and second of all, I wasn’t scubidulling with Jace.”

Jace on the other hand said nothing, which somehow made it worse, and instead of correcting her, he casually reaches over again, grabbing another fry from my plate. Once again, with no shame.

1 smacked the back of his hand. “Go get your own.”

He frowns like I had deeply offended him. “I prefer yours.

“Well, I don’t.”

“You’re not even eating them.”

“That’s not the point.” He scoffs at me, taking another fry anyway,

Asshole

Rolling my eyes, my lips parted ready to let out a couple of cuss words at him again when a movement from across the cafeteria catches my attention.

My gaze slowly drifts back toward Landon, and found him already looking at me, more specifically, at Jace before me. His gazed moved to the fries, then back to us, taking in how close we both were sitting.

Something smug curled in my chest at this.

Oh

Well

Maybe this could be useful.

A slow smirk pulled at my lips and Jace notices it instantly. “Okay, why do you suddenly have this evil look on your face.”

Ignoring him, I instead grabbed his arm, making him blink in surprise ad I leaned closer.

“Uh, Delilah,” he started slowly. “Not that I mind, but what are you doing?”

“Can you just shut for a second,” my voice was a bit cold as he raised a brow.

I moved closer to him, closing what ever little gap was in our seats, our faces inches apart. And from the corner of my eyes I could still see Landon from across the cafeteria, watching.

Good.

My hand tightened a bit around Jace’s sleeves as I tilted my head toward him, bringing my lips dangerously close to his.. close enough that from Landon’s angle it would definitely look like we were about to kiss.

Jace went still, and for once in his life he actually shut the fuck up. His gaze drifts down briefly to my lips before lifting back up to meet mine again.

“What in the hell are you…”

“Pretend,” I muttered out quietly, leaning even more closer, and one more inch,, our lips would be touching.

The cafeteria noise slowly begins to blur around me as I kept my eyes half lidded, focusing only on the reaction I wanted. And it worked, because across the room, Landon shoves his chair back, getting to his feet.

Sophie looked startled at this as she hurriedly get to her feet, and started trailing behind him like the fucking little lapdog that she was.

1

My smirk widend, as I watch him head toward the cafeteria exit, without making any attempt to look back, jaw visible tight even from across the room.

Sophie rushes after him, nearly tripping over herself to keep up, and before she disappeared through the door, she glanced back at me, and I smirked directly at her.

Petty

Childish

Toxic

Worth it

The second she disappeared out of sight, the smirk dropped from my face. “Bitch.” I muttered under my breath, grabbing fry and biting into it aggressively like it had been the one to personally offend me.

Beside me Jace stared at me then he slowly turned toward Kaia, then back to me.

“Oh my God,” he whispered, very much dramatic. “Talk about girls drama.” He leaned back in his chair, looking entirely too amused with himself.

I gave him the best glare I could muster. “Never say that to a girl.”

Kaia points her half eaten pizza at him, nodding. “You do not say that to a girl.”

He raises his hand up in a playfully surrender. “Gees, my bad.” He snorted and I shot him another glare.

“I’m about to stab you with this fork.” I tell him planly and he gulps.

“You sure do know how to threaten the life out of someone.”

“Just so you know, I mean every single word.” He grinned.

God, his face was irritating

Kaia looks between the two of us before letting out a groan, getting up to her feet. “I need a drink before I continue witnessing whatever crazy wattpad enemies to lovers crap this is.”

“It’s not enemies to lovers,” I said.

“Sure.”

“It’s enemies to I kill-him.”

Jace nodded thoughtfully. “That’s still a form of commitment.” This makes her cackle as she walked off toward the vending machines.
