SO MUCH ALIKE

The moment the door to my bathroom closes behind me, I lean against it, letting out a long breath, my gaze moving up to stare at my reflection.

And for a second or two, I just stare, everything Caelum had told me felt like a dream. It meant seems like was overreacting, but hearing that I had a chance with Northwestern felt so surereal.

Even with my conversation with Mrs Hudges, I had weighed my choices, wondering if I had a chance in any of the top colleges, and had spent so much time having to look at universities, searching through programs and had imagine what my life would be after high school.

Though I had found myself genuinely becoming interested in journalism, especially the idea of eventually working in fashion journalism. But I had always treated it like something I could maybe do if everything somehow becomes perfects. Now, there was an actual possibility sitting right in front of me.

I had a chance, a real one

I could feel the excitement flutters in my chest, making it hard to keep the smile from off my face. I was going to have to work harder than I had ever done, there was no excuses, and no giving up when it seems impossible and difficult.

If they wanted to see A’s, then A’s will I get. I was ready to study until i understood have I didn’t understand, and was ready to ask questions, stay in classes if I had to.

I was ready to go whatever was necessary at this point because I wanted this. And the more I thought about it. the more I realise I probably wouldn’t have gotten a chance at Northwestern if not for Caelum.

He had put some of the work, pushing when I didn’t want ti be pushed and had sat beside me through hours of studying, making me believe in the version of me I had been convinced was stupud wasn’t actually the person I was.

he has seen something in me before I could see it myself

My gaze drifts toward the close door, knowing he was still out there, and a small smile found its way to my lips.

I look back at my reflection, shaking my head slightly, before releasing a quiet sigh, the kind that came with a slight relief. Knowing that for once I had something to look forward, something worth fighting for.

Pushing away from the counter, I made my way to the door and out the bathroom. My feet halts when I stop back to my room, expecting to see Caelum sitting at my desk, but instead he was standing further from it, his back towards me.

He was standing in a small alcove floating shelve where I had a couple of pictures displayed, his head slightly lowered as he looked at one of the pictures and for a moment, I just simply watched him.

A smile touches my lips again as I walked over, and without saying anything, I slipped my arms around his waist from behind. He immediately relaxed against me, one of his hands settling over mine.

“Well,” he murmurs softly, and I could tell he was smiling without having to look at his face, “this is

refreshing.”

:

I chuckled against his back, my hold tightens a bit, “Don’t get used to it.”

“Too late,” he says, a smile evident in his voice, “I’m already getting spoiled, so you might as well keep going because I plan on enjoying every damn second of it.”

“Enjoy it while you can,” I tease, resting my cheek against his back, “although..I suppose I don’t mind spoiling you once in a while, I guess I can allow you a little happiness.”

“Thank you, My Queen,” he murmurs playfully, “I’ll be sure to remember how generously you’ve chosen to bless me.” I laugh, unable to keep the smile off my face.

“Well, that explains a lot,” I mutter, shaking my head, “I was wondering where Leo learned all those ridiculous pickup lines. Apparently, he got them from his big brother.”

“I’d like to think I taught him well,” he says proudly, “that kid learned from the best,” I laugh again, unable to help myself knowing how terrible they both were in things like this, and at the same time how great they

were.

Moving my cheek from his back, I pressed a small kiss between his shoulder blades before shifting my head tk the side so I could see what had caught his attention.

Then I saw the photograph and almost instantly wanted to disappear

Oh my God

Groaning, “Please tell me you weren’t looking at that.”

He glances down at the picture again and I knew exactly which one it was. It was a picture of me and Daisy as kids. I was probably seven or eight there, standing beside my sister with a rediculous huge smile on my face, not caring that one of my teeth was missing.

My hair was pull into two uneven pigtails, and I was wearing a dress that looked like someone had picked it out specifically to make me look as embarrassing as possible.

Daisy, on the other hand, looked completely put together, with one arm around my shoulders, smiling at the camera while I proudly display the gap where my tooth use to be.

“I can’t believe I never thought to hide this,” I muttered.

Caelum smiled. “Why would you?”

“Because I look ridiculous.”

“You look cute.”

Scoffing at this, “Cute? I was missing a whole tooth, looking like one of those kids auditioning for a toothpaste commercial gone wrong.”

“You were adorable, gap and all,” he says, “besides, you’ve already seen my baby pictures and you know there

are some seriously questionable photographs of me hiding in that album.”

“For what it’s worth, i thought you were adorable in your baby pictures.”

He glances at me, a teasing smile tugging at his lips, “So you thought I was cute?”

I roll my eyes. “I said adorable.”

“Same thing,” his smile widens, “and that’s exactly how I feel about yours,” I rolled my eyes at this, but I couldn’t stop the smile that appeared.

Looking at the picture again, despite how much I wanted to be embarrassed by it, I found myself smiling. Daisy had always loved that picture, she had once told me it was her favorite because I looked so happy.

My gaze lingered on her face and Caelum seems to notice, his eyes moves to another photograph beside it. This one was different, I was fourteen and Daisy was seventeen. We were standing side by side, dressed for some family event, both of us smiling at the camera.

Looking at it now, the resemblance was almost ridiculous, same eyes, noses, same shape to our smiles and even our expressions were sometimes eerily alike.

The biggest difference was our height, Daisy had always been taller than me.

“Wow,” Caelum murmured.

“What?”

“You two really do look alike.”

I smiled faintly. “People used to think we were twins.”

“I can see why.”

“Except she was three years older.”

“And taller.”

“Much taller.”

He smiled. “I would’ve guessed you were sisters immediately, though,” I looked at the photograph again, there was something bittersweet about seeing us like that.

Fourteen and seventeen, before everything changed and there were things I couldn’t talk about without feeling that familiar ache in my chest.

Daisy had always been more than just my sister, she had been the person I looked for whenever I needed
