When I Flash-Married a Billionaire, My Ex Went on a Hunger Strike novel Chapter 67

Adora’s eyes flew open as she stared at Louis in disbelief. “You don’t know how to do it?”

Seriously?

He was a complete quack.

He didn’t even know what he was doing and still dared to stick needles into her?

Was he not afraid of murder?

Louis glanced at her, his tone calm and even. “I’m a surgeon. Holistic therapies aren’t exactly my field, but I know enough to handle this.”

“No, absolutely not…” Adora cut him off immediately, not buying a word.

In her mind, he was a walking malpractice lawsuit. “I’d still like to live a few more years, thanks.”

Unfazed, Louis replied steadily, “The professor on the line is a fellow of the National Academy of Medicine and comes from a long line of traditional physicians. With him guiding me, you’ll live.”

Adora went silent, caught somewhere between doubt and reluctant trust.

Her body stiffened.

Louis continued consulting with the professor, then turned to her and instructed, “Lift your shirt and lower your waistband a little.”

Adora glared at him, pure resistance and mistrust written all over her face.

“Gender doesn’t matter to a doctor. Besides, with how skinny you are, you’re practically a skeleton.”

His implication was clear—he wasn’t interested in her.

Louis had a wicked tongue.

If Adora weren’t in such excruciating pain and completely drained, she would’ve gone a full round with him then and there.

The tension in the room hung heavy.

Just then, the professor’s voice came through the speakerphone, warm and kindly. “Miss, can you describe the type of cramps you're experiencing? It'll help me assess things more accurately.”

Adora’s expression eased a little.

She hesitated, then lay back down and quietly described her symptoms.

The professor named a few pressure points and guided Louis through the steps.

The treatment lasted about thirty minutes, and to Adora’s surprise, the pain actually started to ease.

She hadn’t had any proper rest in two days and nights, and today’s torment had drained her completely.

Now that the worst had passed, sleep overtook her without warning.

Louis ended the call, checked the time, and carefully removed the needles.

When he touched her hands and feet again, they were noticeably warmer, no longer cold or clammy with sweat.

Her face no longer looked ghostly pale too.

He pulled the blanket over her and quietly left the bedroom.

Eugene was waiting just outside.

“Uncle, how is she? Did she fall asleep, or…” Eugene asked cautiously.

Louis shot him a glance. “If you’re so afraid of her dying, why bother stirring up trouble in the first place?”

Eugene looked down, conflicted and regretful. “We loved each other once. No matter what happened… I just can’t let her go.”
