Amber shouted in fury.
She shoved Lucian backward, sending him crashing onto the floor like a piece of trash tossed into the mud.
She wasn't as vile or pathetic as he was.
Asking Sharif for help?
Only a loser like him could come up with such an excuse!
"Lucian has completely lost it. If you can't handle losing, don't compete!"
"Exactly. Throwing a tantrum over a loss? Pathetic."
"You're dragging the title of 'number one student' through the dirt."
Lucian's head throbbed. He exploded in rage. "Shut up!!!"
But a split second later, reality came crashing down. Right now, he wasn't the billionaire CEO who had everyone bowing at his feet in his past life. He was just a broke high school senior cramming for exams.
"Lucian, it's just one competition. It doesn't mean anything."
Joanne pushed through the crowd. She despised Amber with every fiber of her being, but right now, she had to play the supportive girlfriend and calm Lucian down. "The college entrance exams are what really matter. Lucian, stop. Don't lower yourself to their level."
Under her gentle touch, Lucian finally seemed to find a shred of comfort. "You're right. It's just one competition. It doesn't decide anything. Amber, the final exams are what really count."
He scrambled up from the floor, glaring at Amber with murderous intent. "Let's go, Joanne. I'll let you have this win, Amber. It's not the first time I've let you take the spotlight anyway. Just wait. I am still number one. I am still the untouchable Lucian Juarez."
*Just you wait!*
In the future, he would still be the wealthiest man in Riverport.
And Amber—she would still be the trash he needed to take out.
Amber let out a cold laugh. His blind arrogance was truly staggering.
Was he really that delusional?
"Alright, Lucian. I'll be waiting!"
Waiting for the day you crawl on your knees, beg for mercy, and admit you were wrong.
Waiting for you to beg for another chance.
"Amber, are you okay? You scared me to death."
Tillie was thoroughly traumatized by Lucian choking Amber. She honestly hadn't expected him to snap and get violent right in front of the teachers.
He was completely unhinged.
Amber smiled gently. "I'm fine, Tillie. Don't worry." Taking a deep breath, Amber turned and offered Sharif a respectful bow. "Mr. Madison, thank you for stepping in."
Sharif didn't say another word, simply glancing at Julian, who promptly handed him the umbrella.
He walked away into the sun.
The moment he was gone, the principal handed Amber her certificate and the prize money. Vance and Tillie were absolutely ecstatic. Vance even picked Amber up and spun her in a circle. "Amber, you are incredible!"
Amber laughed and told him to put her down. "Come on, let's get that boba!"
...
"Lucian, where are we going?"
Lucian's grip on Joanne's wrist was painfully tight, but she didn't dare complain. Her mind kept flashing back to the image of Lucian's bloodshot eyes as he choked Amber.
Maybe she was just being paranoid, but Joanne had a terrifying feeling that one day, his hands would end up around her neck.
He and Amber had grown up together, yet he had gone straight for the kill over a single competition. He claimed to love Joanne, but what would happen when he found out she didn't care about him at all and was just playing him for money? Would he kill her?
Joanne was genuinely terrified. "Lucian..."
Lucian finally seemed to cool down. He stopped walking, turning back with red rimmed eyes, and looked at her. "Joanne, I'm so sorry. I didn't expect to lose. I'm so sorry I broke my promise to you again."
He had lost the fifty grand. What was his Joanne going to do now?
Thinking about it, Lucian suddenly felt a wave of regret—he really should have strangled Amber to death. No, he should have forced her to give him the money.
