Treating it like a comedy show, Amber gave a slight shrug and continued back to the apartment.
Seeing Amber's blatantly dismissive attitude, Grace's fury ignited even further. "Amber, you go back and tell your father that even if he gets down on his knees and begs me, I will never forgive him!"
Amber laughed. "I'll save him the trouble, Grace. That day is never going to come."
Grace screamed again, "Don't get cocky! On the day the exam results are announced, you and your father will get exactly what's coming to you!"
"Funny you mention that. We'll see exactly who gets what's coming to them that day," Amber provoked her with a smile.
Grace wanted to shout another threat, but Amber was already walking away.
She could only stamp her feet in rage, screaming into the empty air—when that day came, she would absolutely destroy that father and daughter.
Returning to the apartment, Amber expected her father and Xanthe to be busy with their own tasks. To her surprise, the moment she opened the door, the rich, sweet aroma of honeyed grain nectar—one of her absolute favorites—hit her.
Before she could even react, she saw Arthur and Xanthe together, taste-testing to see if tomorrow's new recipe was a success.
Arthur was standing right beside Xanthe, who was gently blowing on a spoonful of the hot nectar for Arthur to try.
Arthur took a careful sip. Even from a distance, Amber could feel the delightful atmosphere radiating between her father and Xanthe.
She stayed quiet, which ended up startling Arthur when he finally noticed her. Whether it was the shock of his daughter catching him in a sweet moment or something else entirely, his ears actually turned bright red.
He cleared his throat. "Amber, you're back."
Xanthe's cheeks were flushed as well. "Amber, come quick. I just finished making a fresh batch of honeyed grain nectar. We're planning to sell it tomorrow. Your dad and I also whipped up a few dishes to wish you success on your exams."
Only then did Amber notice the small kitchen table was packed with several dishes, all of her absolute favorites.
"Thank you, Xanthe. But you just got discharged from the hospital. Your health comes first," Amber said, her eyes curving into a bright smile.
"Oh, it's nothing," Xanthe replied warmly. "Your dad mentioned that as the weather gets hotter, the workers are exhausted and overheated. I figured I'd brew a soup to help them cool down. This nectar is perfect—it's easy on the stomach but filling. Otherwise, the workers just chug freezing water all day, and their bodies can't take that."
"Exactly, Amber. Xanthe is brilliant. honestly, I think it's fantastic, and the workers will definitely love it. Xanthe practically wanted to deliver it to them tonight."
Amber smiled. "Then what are we waiting for? Let's take it over now."
"You're way too eager! We were just doing a taste test. Come on, try some and give Xanthe your feedback," Arthur urged.
"Xanthe's cooking doesn't need feedback! Her food is always the best," Amber praised smoothly.
