Two Reborn, One Throne novel Chapter 32

After signing the contract, Amber left the Madison Group building.

She had no idea that Sharif was standing by the floor-to-ceiling windows in the corridor, watching her cheerful silhouette walk away.

Julian stood respectfully beside him. "Mr. Madison..."

"Get a private investigator on her. I want twenty-four-hour surveillance updates."

Sharif closed Amber's signed contract and stepped into the elevator. He found this young girl to be delightfully cunning.

Outside the building, Amber caught the bus back to school.

Now, apart from preparing for the Physics Olympiad next Monday, her only focus was studying for her final exams. Once graduation was over, her life would take a completely different path from her past one.

Arriving back at school, the moment Amber pushed open the classroom door, a bucket balanced on top flipped over, soaking her completely in dirty water.

Amber stared in shock at the mastermind behind the prank: Lucian Juarez.

Lucian knew she had gone to the Madison Group interview in his place today. He didn't care if she passed or not; even if she did, the company wouldn't call until after graduation.

He knew the first thing she'd do after the interview was come back to class. When he had gone to pick Joanne up, seeing her eyes swollen from crying had broken his heart. He brought Joanne back, grabbed a cleaning bucket, filled it halfway with mop water, and balanced it above the door. He had perfectly calculated the angle of Amber pushing the door open.

Watching her stand there drenched, his eyes held nothing but cruel satisfaction.

"Lucian, what is wrong with you?" Amber couldn't believe it. She had just passed the interview and secured the contract. Before she could even share the good news with her father, Lucian had dumped dirty water on her.

The weather in the city was scorching, but being soaked to the bone out of nowhere left her shivering, her face pale.

He was completely out of his mind.

"What is wrong with me? Do I even need to say it? I told you to stay out of my business with Joanne. You brought this entirely on yourself, Amber. Consider this a warning. If you hadn't stayed behind to badmouth us to my mom last night, Joanne wouldn't have skipped class this morning. She wouldn't have had to stand in that luxury store for three hours, begging until her throat was raw, just to get the staff to agree to a four-thousand-dollar refund. Tell me, Amber, didn't you deserve this?"

Amber truly hadn't expected him to dump a bucket of dirty water on her over such a pathetic excuse.

No, it wasn't about the excuse. It was about Joanne. No matter what the reason was, he would always treat her this way.

"Lucian, you're crazy! Amber, are you okay?"

Tillie Taylor, who had spotted Amber walking down the hallway, heard the loud splash before she even entered. Rushing in, she saw the massive puddle on the floor and Amber dripping wet.

It was obvious Lucian was behind it.

No wonder he had stormed back in with Joanne at lunch, aggressively rearranging desks and hauling a bucket around. To think he actually dumped it on Amber.

*Splash!*

Lucian never saw it coming. He hadn't realized she ran out to get water. She wasn't going to tell the teacher at all.

She preferred instant karma!

After drenching him, Amber stepped forward and slapped him hard across the face. "Lucian, there's a limit to how brain-dead you can be! A thirty-thousand-dollar luxury item, and she begged for three hours just to get four thousand dollars back? You want to play the fool, fine, but don't disgust me with it."

Amber handed the empty bucket to Tillie, asking her to return it to the classroom next door.

Taking a deep breath, she looked at a now equally soaked Lucian and Joanne, feeling an immense sense of satisfaction.

Joanne certainly hadn't expected to be caught in the splash zone. Startled, she let out a piercing shriek. "Ah!!!"

The scream instantly drew the attention of students out in the hallway, who began crowding the doorway.

"Amber..."

Lucian raised his hand, fully intending to hit her back, but Amber stood her ground, fearless. "Try it! Touch me, and I won't just talk about the luxury items. Piss me off, and I'll tell your mother exactly how you altered your college applications. Let's see if your precious Joanne can keep playing house with you then!"

"I told you, we mind our own business. Four thousand dollars? You dump water on me, and splashing both of you still isn't payback enough. Joanne, stop acting like you deserve an Oscar. Even if a luxury brand won't do a full refund, they take a maximum of thirty percent in restocking fees. Out of thirty thousand, the refund would be twenty-one thousand. If she only gave you four thousand, she pocketed seventeen thousand dollars for herself!"
