Two Reborn, One Throne novel Chapter 179

"Amber, it's getting late. You should head back and get some rest. You have classes tomorrow."

Xanthe was thrilled that Amber came to keep her company every day, but she also worried about her health with the Exam coming up.

Amber checked her phone. Eight o'clock. It really was getting late. Just as she agreed and said she'd visit after school tomorrow, a knock came at the door.

Amber turned around to see a middle-aged man in a sharp suit. In one hand, he carried the exact same premium health supplements Amber had just placed on the overbed table, and in the other, a massive, vibrant bouquet of red roses.

"Excuse me, is this Grace's ward?"

Arthur, who had just stood up to walk Amber out, froze in his tracks.

Xanthe glanced at him, then at Amber. Seeing Amber's expression shift, she stayed silent.

Howard Harper acted as if he had just noticed Arthur in the room. "Arthur! You're here too? Then Grace must be in here!" He peered around the room. The standard ward had three beds. Xanthe was in the middle, and he didn't recognize the other two patients.

Just as Arthur opened his mouth to reply, Lucian's voice came from behind Howard. "Howard? What are you doing here?"

Lucian's handsome face feigned perfect confusion. Beside him, Joanne flashed a sweet, practiced smile. "Hello, Howard. Are you here to see Grace? She's in the ward next door. This is Loretta's cousin's room."

Howard looked utterly shocked. "Oh, I'm so sorry, I got the wrong room! I just got back from a business trip today. I stopped by the alley to check on my mother and heard Grace had a clash with Loretta. I tried calling Grace, but she wouldn't pick up, so I just took a chance and came to the hospital."

"Lucian, how is your mother holding up?"

Amber's lips curled into a smirk. Howard Harper was one of Grace's early suitors. However, he couldn't cater to her demanding nature, and he was just a low-level corporate drone, so Grace never agreed to date him.

In her past life, he didn't get promoted until he was fifty. He sought Grace out then, but by that time, Grace was the mother of the wealthiest man in the city. She wouldn't have looked twice at a billionaire CEO, let alone a mid-level manager.

Amber was laughing internally because Lucian really had stooped to the bottom of the barrel, dragging in Howard—who wasn't even due for a promotion until next month.

What, did they really want a showdown!?

Amber didn't know it, but this tactic—mimicking how she had brought Xanthe in to make Grace jealous—was actually Joanne's brainchild. Lucian had just swapped out the player for Howard.

"Even if I don't like you, you're at least a human being. Unlike some people who are in the exact same hospital, living right next door, and act completely blind. But I suppose that makes sense. Why would anyone look at me when they have a new flame to keep them warm?"

"Oh, wait, I'm not even an old flame. Just a neighbor." Having vented two days' worth of pent-up rage, Grace finally felt a little better. "Cheap gifts are still gifts. I'm not in a position to be picky anymore. I'm not the young beauty I was ten years ago. The fact that you came to visit shows you care."

"But Joanne, are there really 999 roses in Howard's bouquet? And these supplements... are they really worth that much?"

Grace's acting was so masterful it was a tragedy she wasn't in showbiz.

Howard quickly jumped in, "No, Joanne is exaggerating. But..." He gave Grace an incredibly bashful smile. "There are indeed 999 roses, and every single one represents my devotion to you."

Yue!

Amber wanted to throw up.

Lucian really knew how to make her physically nauseous.
