Two Reborn, One Throne novel Chapter 166

Miles Yates was jolted awake by Yvonne Sargent tossing a glass of ice water onto his face.

He had drunk a little too much the night before and passed out entirely.

When Yvonne walked in, Miles had four beautiful women lounging around him. His shirt was wide open, exposing a tanned, chiseled chest and a neck covered in countless lipstick marks.

The freezing water snapped him out of his stupor, though his brain was still foggy. It was a good thing it was Yvonne who threw the water; if it had been any of his other girls, he either would have dragged them into bed or had his security throw them out.

Yvonne was dripped in jewels as always, wearing an elegant black dress and a designer hat.

"Mr. Yates, do you happen to remember what you're supposed to be doing today?"

Yvonne set the empty glass down on the coffee table, glaring down at him with utter disdain.

Miles slowly pieced it together. He had a yacht date with Joanne today.

Sitting on the floor, he let the freezing water drip down his face, threading through his hair and rolling down his neck. "With Ms. Sargent personally coming to my door to remind me, how could I possibly forget?"

He ran a hand through his slightly long, wavy hair, pushing it back. His charming eyes glinted with calculation.

Yvonne was highly satisfied with his answer. She turned to leave. "Then I expect a good show."

Miles let out a roguish laugh at her retreating, glamorous figure, then pulled his phone out of his pocket.

...

The moment she handed in her exam, Joanne headed straight for the hair salon.

If she wasn't purposefully trying to maintain her 'innocent schoolgirl' persona for Miles, she would have already changed into an outfit she thought no man could resist and gone straight to his yacht.

Instead, she asked the stylist to straighten her hair into a sleek, pure style—the kind that made her look sweet and vulnerable just from behind.

The stylist did exactly as she asked. By the time he finished, the afternoon Science Composite exam had officially ended. Wanting to avoid the crowded school gates, Joanne had pushed her meeting with Miles to five o'clock.

Taking advantage of the time it took Lucian to turn in his paper and look for her, Joanne pulled a white sundress out of her bag—the exact anomaly Amber had noticed that morning.

She borrowed a blow dryer from the salon owner to smooth out the dress, paired it with her freshly straightened hair, and slipped on a cute headband. She looked as pure and sweet as a blooming snow lotus.

The salon owner couldn't take his eyes off her.

Joanne admired herself in the mirror, thoroughly pleased. Only then did she answer the incoming call from Lucian. "Lucian, I'm so sorry. Right after I handed in my test, my dad called and told me to come home. I had to leave early. You should have seen the message I left you."

"Lucian, please give my regards to your mom. If it's okay, let her know I'll come visit her tomorrow afternoon—if she wants me to, that is."

After hanging up, Joanne spent five minutes repacking her bag and another five applying a natural, 'no-makeup' makeup look. Then, she walked out of the salon looking exactly like the perfect, wealthy schoolgirl.

By this time, most of the students had already left. Moreover, since it was the fifth mock exam, the campus was much emptier than usual. Joanne wasn't worried about being spotted.

But what she didn't account for was that Lucian, who had hailed a cab for the hospital, realized he had forgotten his pencil case and asked the driver to turn back. While sitting at a red light, he happened to look out the window and saw Joanne stepping out of the salon.

She crossed the street and turned the corner. Without even following her, Lucian saw with his own eyes that his sweet Joanne, sporting a completely new look, was climbing into a luxury car.

And he recognized the owner of the car. It was Yvonne Sargent's fiancé, Miles Yates.

A textbook wealthy playboy!

Why was Joanne getting into his car?

Without giving himself time to think, as the driver began to make a U-turn and said they were here, Lucian ordered, "Follow that car ahead of us. Don't let him spot you."

The driver looked confused. Lucian pulled two hundred-dollar bills out of his bag. "I'll pay you more if you need it. Just follow him. Don't lose him."

Lucian's heart was pounding faster than it ever had in his life. Joanne had lied to him? Since when did she know Miles Yates? Damn it, was this Yvonne's doing?
