Two Reborn, One Throne novel Chapter 156

Grace scrambled back into her apartment.

As soon as she was inside, she locked every single lock on the door.

The image of Damien being urged by the neighbors to beat her up kept looping in her mind, draining the color from her face.

*Thank goodness Arthur is such a pushover.* He was still deeply devoted to her. Even knowing she had sicked Damien on Xanthe, he couldn't bear to see her hurt.

She poured herself a glass of water to steady her nerves.

When you really thought about it, this was all that brat Amber's fault. Even if her scheme was exposed, Xanthe was still supposed to go back with her brother.

*Damn it, that brat is nothing but an obstacle stopping me from using her dad.*

She had avoided a beating for now, but that didn't mean she had won. Since Xanthe was injured, she figured she should take the initiative and text Arthur first.

That way, she would look like the bigger person, subtly hinting that if he just replied, she would be magnanimous enough to forgive him.

But what if he replied by questioning her about Xanthe's beating? *Damn it! Damien is so useless. Just because of some agreement with Amber, he didn't even take Xanthe away. What the hell was in that contract anyway?*

Her head pounded, so she stopped thinking about it. She was exhausted from the bumpy ride this morning and decided to catch up on sleep. Once Arthur finished getting checked out at the hospital, he would definitely call her. When that happened... Grace smiled, knowing that all she had to do was cry and throw a tantrum, and Arthur would cave. She had nothing to fear.

However, she never expected that this time—even if she pretended to faint or begged on her knees in front of him—Arthur would never respond.

He had blocked her!!!!

At the hospital.

Amber arranged a full-body checkup for Xanthe.

Having endured years of domestic violence and being treated like livestock by the Sutton family, Xanthe had never received proper medical care.

Not knowing Amber had paid for a comprehensive exam, Xanthe insisted she was used to it, saying there was no need to waste money and that she just needed to rest in bed for a couple of days.

Ultimately, she just didn't want to be a burden to Amber.

Arthur couldn't believe it. Her own flesh and blood treated her like an animal, just because she couldn't have kids?

It was complete lawlessness.

Xanthe wiped the tears from her cheeks. "Arthur, do you think if calling the cops actually worked, Amber would have hidden this from you and helped me herself?" At this point, Xanthe felt incredibly guilty that he had also been hit today. "I'm so sorry for making a joke out of you today. But please don't blame Amber. If I hadn't agreed to this, my brother never would have found me."

"It's all my fault. Amber was only trying to help me, so please don't be mad at her. She's a good kid. Arthur, I'm not saying this to get your forgiveness or pity, I just..."

"Xanthe, stop taking all the blame. I'm the one who asked Loretta to set this up. Dad, it was my idea. If you want to be mad at someone, be mad at me," Amber said, walking into the room and interrupting Xanthe.

Hearing this, Xanthe tried to sit up, but Amber gently pressed her back down. "Lie down. Since everything is out in the open, let's just lay it all out. Dad, I used your name to ask Loretta to propose a match with the Sutton family. To get them to let her out, I even signed an agreement with them."

"On the day the Exam results are announced, if you take Xanthe back to the Sutton family in Fairhaven Village to restore the dignity she supposedly lost by being barren, they will host a grand wedding to send her off. If not, I have to pay them three hundred thousand in damages. That includes a one hundred thousand penalty if the Sutton family backs out midway."

"Amber!"
