Two Reborn, One Throne novel Chapter 15

Amber was entirely oblivious to the subtle, charged atmosphere around her.

Just then, a classmate walking into the room called out, "Amber, Ms. Harper wants to see you in the teacher's lounge. Says it's important. You better hurry."

Amber turned back to Vance. "I'll leave the pot to you. I've got to go see Ms. Harper."

Tillie frowned slightly, marveling at how drastically Amber had changed.

The reason Ms. Harper had summoned Amber was entirely related to the university application forms.

However, the teacher looked completely baffled. "Amber, are you absolutely certain you want to apply for the overseas university scholarship? This is an elite fast-track reserved exclusively for the number-one ranked student."

Ms. Harper was a deeply dedicated educator. When she collected the intent forms and saw that Lucian had applied for the exact same community college as Joanne, she practically had a heart attack.

She had pulled Lucian aside to talk sense into him, but he had coldly replied, "Ms. Harper, this is my first choice. You can't dictate my future just because you're my teacher."

The top student in the school going to a trade school? It was an absolute joke.

But Ms. Harper's hands were tied.

Lucian was right; she was just a teacher without the authority to force his hand. Her only hope was to speak with Amber and pray she could talk some sense into him.

But to her shock, while Lucian remained stubborn, Amber had completely changed her own application from Riverport University to the elite overseas program.

The teacher was utterly bewildered.

Was she trying to hold the spot as a placeholder for Lucian?

As their homeroom teacher, she was well aware of how close their two families were.

"Ms. Harper, I'm absolutely certain, and you don't need to worry. We still have one final mock exam left, right? If I secure the number one rank this time, please submit my application. Oh, and I'll need the complete list of prerequisites for the scholarship program. I plan to have all my tests and certifications finalized before the mock exam grades are even posted. Also, just to show how serious I am, I've already booked an interview for tomorrow afternoon with the Madison Group for their corporate sponsorship."

Amber offered a polite bow.

In her past life, Amber had been the one running around compiling all these documents for Lucian.

Her only goal back then was to get Lucian into that prestigious overseas university. While Riverport University was respectable, Amber believed studying abroad would elevate his critical thinking and business acumen.

Lucian's massive success in her previous life proved she had been right.

But in this life, all Lucian wanted was to play house with Joanne. She wasn't going to stop him, but she absolutely refused to let the opportunities that were rightfully hers slip away.

Well, maybe not quite that dramatic. The truth was, Sharif's assignments were often too complex for Lucian to grasp, so Lucian would curse him out privately, calling him a bloodsucking capitalist.

Seeing him upset, Amber naturally joined in on the cursing.

Later, after crossing paths professionally with Sharif a few times, Amber had thought to herself for the very first time: If Lucian possessed even a third of Sharif's maturity and sharp vision, maybe I wouldn't have had to work myself to the bone, only to be murdered by him in the end.

"Ms. Harper, please trust me. I won't let you down. Besides, until the final exam scores are posted, nothing is set in stone. Who knows, maybe Lucian will change his mind? But regardless of what he does, I want this opportunity, and I'm asking for your help to secure it."

Ms. Harper frowned. Amber's grades were excellent, but to a corporate sponsor, the gap between tenth place and first place was a massive canyon.

"Tell you what, Amber, I won't hold the forms back. Like you said, until the final grades drop, everything is up in the air. Maybe Lucian will come to his senses in a few days. I don't want to ruin either of your futures. Fill these out and mail them to the address listed. Go on back to study hall. I'll be waiting for good news."

Amber took the thick stack of papers and bowed deeply again. "Thank you, Ms. Harper. I'll never forget this for as long as I live."

The teacher offered a warm smile. Just as Amber hugged the precious documents to her chest and headed back to class, her phone buzzed.

"Hey, Dad..."

"Amber, Lucian blocked my number."
