Sharif had just ended a phone call when Julian knocked and entered.
"Sir, the security team called. Amber was picked up by Yvonne."
Sharif paused. "Picked up?"
"Yes. According to their report, Yvonne specifically ordered lunch for her at the cafeteria today. She didn't eat it. Right after school, Yvonne picked her up and offered her a fifty-million-dollar penthouse at The Regency Estates."
Sharif was silent.
"Was she tempted?"
He looked up at his assistant. Outside the window, the fading sunset illuminated his captivating silhouette.
Julian weighed his words. "She wasn't."
Those two words were as light as a feather. Whether Julian dragged out the syllables on purpose, or if Sharif was just in an unexpectedly good mood, those feather-light words created a sudden ripple in the tranquil lake of his heart.
But in the very next second, that delicate ripple came to a screeching halt.
"She demanded one hundred billion and ten percent of Sargent Group's shares in exchange for signing."
Sharif was speechless.
When Julian first heard the report from the bodyguards, his expression had mirrored his boss's exact reaction. But evidently, Sharif's face carried a slightly different undertone.
"One hundred billion? Plus ten percent of their shares?"
He let out a low chuckle. The little fox really knew how to ask for the moon.
Julian nodded. "Exactly. Why do you think she threw out a number like that? One hundred billion... she essentially sold you out. Besides, are you really only worth that much?"
Sharif didn't seem to mind. A sharp glint flashed through his dark, abyssal eyes. "Then how much should I be worth?"
Julian had no answer.
"One hundred billion, plus ten percent of their shares. That's enough for her to live luxuriously for several lifetimes. I didn't realize I was worth that much. She sold me for a good price."
Julian remained silent.
—You have to be joking, right?
"One hundred billion? And ten percent of my company's shares? I gave you an inch, and you're trying to take a mile." Back at the luxury apartment, the only reason Yvonne didn't slap Amber across the face was her aristocratic upbringing.
She really had given this girl too much grace.
A brat from the wrong side of the tracks actually dared to demand such an astronomical price!? Who was she trying to insult?
Yvonne was furious, her face contorting with rage. "If you're so self-aware about your place, then you should know the consequences of rejecting me."
Amber knew perfectly well, but she simply said, "And have you considered the consequences of threatening me and infuriating him?"
Yvonne froze.
"It looks like you haven't. I don't know where you got the idea that he and I have the kind of relationship you think we do, but even if we did, do you really think he'd just stand by and watch?"
"Amber!"
"Allow me to remind you to think before you act. The only reason you're resorting to using me as bait is because you're currently under a strict ban by your father, aren't you?"
Yvonne raised an eyebrow, her flawless face twisting into something terrifying. "Are you threatening me?"
Amber smiled faintly. "I wouldn't dare. But... I can offer you a trade."
Yvonne's pupils dilated. "What did you just say?"
Amber stared straight into her eyes, enunciating every syllable clearly. "Project Riverside B-275."
Yvonne stood completely still.
