Two Reborn, One Throne novel Chapter 132

"Mr. Lambert, you wanted to see me?"

Amber announced herself and stood perfectly straight in the doorway of the principal's office.

Mr. Lambert, who was pouring tea for Yvonne, glanced at Amber without giving anything away. Yvonne was still facing away from the door.

"Yes, Amber, come in. Let me introduce you," the principal began, but before he could finish, Yvonne stood up.

She turned around with slow, calculated elegance. The smile on her flawlessly made-up face was dazzling and dangerously seductive.

"So you're Amber Newman, the champion of this year's city-wide Physics Olympiad? Nice to meet you. I'm Yvonne Sargent, Investment Director of the Sargent Group. You can call me Ms. Sargent, Director Sargent, or even Yvonne if you prefer."

—Fuck!!!

The moment Amber laid eyes on Yvonne, she felt like she had just stepped in a massive pile of shit!!!!

If Lucian Juarez was the man who had betrayed her most in her past life, then Yvonne Sargent was the woman who had wanted her dead the most.

She was Sharif's fiancée—entirely self-appointed, of course.

In her previous life, during the three years Amber spent as Sharif's secretary, any time she wasn't learning his management strategies, she was spending every waking second fending off Yvonne.

In the beginning, when Amber wanted to quit and go work for Lucian, her relationship with Yvonne had been... well, not exactly friendly, but mutually beneficial. Later, after Sharif was sabotaged by a rival, Amber was forced to become his human shield against the apocalyptic disaster that was Yvonne Sargent.

The woman was genuinely deranged! The kind of deranged that would actually kill someone.

Sharif despised her, which only made things worse. Yvonne had grown up surrounded by sycophants, expecting everything to go her way. Hitting a brick wall with Sharif bruised her fragile ego so badly that she swore she'd conquer him even if she went through with her marriage to Miles Yates.

Seriously, for a billionaire heiress, she was beyond despicable. She was clinically insane and made Amber's blood boil.

In her past life, Yvonne had been insanely jealous and constantly tried to ruin her. Amber had physically fought her multiple times—real, ugly brawls involving hair-pulling and scratching. It wasn't until Amber finally convinced Yvonne she was in love with someone else, playing a dangerous game of chess for years until she was forced to publicly expose her relationship with Lucian and resign, that Yvonne finally backed off.

And even then, she hadn't entirely let it go.

—Why the hell was this happening so early in this timeline!?

Amber hadn't even graduated high school yet. The news of Sharif's sponsorship hadn't gone public. How did she find out?

Amber felt a wave of dread. Had Joanne done this!?

It was possible, yet highly unlikely. Having survived Yvonne's brand of crazy, Amber knew the woman must have caught some wild rumor and rushed over to mark her territory and assert dominance.

God help her. She really, really didn't want to deal with this psycho in this lifetime!!!

Heh. The little slut. Sharif hid it well. Who knew his tastes were this bizarre—he actually liked this type!?

"Nothing in particular. I just wanted to meet you and have a little chat. For instance..." Yvonne flashed a gorgeous, toxic smile, completely uncaring that the principal was standing right there. "What kind of conditions would it take for you to tear up your current contract and sign with the Sargent Group?"

Amber: "..."

Mr. Lambert: So it really was a turf war! She's poaching his people!

Amber feigned innocent confusion. "Sign with the Sargent Group? Ms. Sargent, please forgive my ignorance, but I'm not sure I understand?" She turned to the principal. "Mr. Lambert, does the Sargent Group have a student sponsorship program too?"

The principal opened his mouth to say no, but Yvonne cut him off. "As long as you're willing, the Sargent Group has one starting today."

Amber: "..."

Making it up on the spot, huh!? —Could you be any more unhinged, Yvonne?

"Amber, you should be honored. You're the first sponsored student the Sargent Group has had in a century. Whatever the Madison Group is offering you, I can match it. Actually, I'll give you double."

"Why don't you take some time to think about it? As long as you sign with us, the terms..." Yvonne stepped into Amber's personal space. Her slender fingers, tipped with vivid red polish, reached out and tilted Amber's chin up. "Are entirely up to you!"

—She was literally asking her to backstab Sharif.
