Sharif Madison arrived in Country A at 6:00 PM.
By now, he should have already flown back to Riverport, but his flight had been delayed because he’d stayed behind to save Amber Newman.
The sky over Country A was painted with the vibrant colors of sunset. Julian Zeller opened the car door for him. Before getting in, Sharif asked, "Any news from the private investigator?"
During the two-hour flight, Sharif hadn't been able to get immediate updates on how Amber was handling the aftermath.
Julian glanced at his boss through the rearview mirror. The man still wore that impenetrable expression.
"Please hold on, let me check."
Julian had a mountain of tasks to handle right after landing, so it was understandable he hadn't immediately checked his messages or missed calls. He just couldn't understand his boss. Mr. Madison had intentionally rescheduled his flight and pushed back his meetings to stay and help Amber, yet he played it cool and boarded the plane right after.
Acting aloof was one thing, but asking about her the second he stepped off the plane and into the car?
Julian wanted to ask—Mr. Madison, what exactly is going through your head? Weren't you just investigating her background? You had the perfect opportunity to just tell her you saved her!
Seriously, are you sure this whole rescue mission wasn't secretly orchestrated by you just to play the hero?
Working for a powerful CEO was exhausting.
"The information just came through, sir. I've forwarded it to your email for your review."
Julian opened his laptop. The email from the PI was waiting in his inbox.
He scanned it quickly before copying Sharif. Sharif’s laptop was just booting up. He clicked the email open, and a hint of amusement flickered in his dark, bottomless eyes.
Observing this, Julian's lips curved into a smile. "I have to say, Amber is incredibly smart. Even at her age, she knows that holding onto leverage is far more effective than just crushing her enemies."
"You have a great eye for talent, sir!"
Sharif was in an inexplicably good mood. From the first moment he laid eyes on Amber, he knew she was cunning, and she certainly hadn't disappointed him. He had imagined how she might handle the situation, but he never expected her to choose the method that satisfied him the most. She truly was a little fox.
Although he still didn't fully understand the bad blood between her and Joanne Xavier, the fact that Amber could give Joanne a taste of her own medicine—and keep her constantly on edge—was brilliant. Simply destroying someone was easy, but holding onto their weakness and suppressing them took real skill.
When people were caught by their weaknesses, they were forced to think twice before making a move.
If Joanne tried to cross her again, she'd have to look over her shoulder.
That kind of lingering paranoia was the ultimate revenge!
"She's decent. Vengeful, not weak. She can handle big responsibilities."
Julian was speechless.
Would she actually feel bad?!
"The PI reported that the cheaper phone is for a relative to use for their lunch catering business. Oh, and they were selling lunches at the new Flora Estate construction site today. Amber's father works there too." Julian suggested, "Should I give the site manager a heads-up?"
Sharif replied, "No need. If she gave her relative a standard phone, she likely has other plans. Don't disrupt her rhythm or mess with her strategy."
Julian mentally sighed.
Spoiling her already?! Sir, you are acting very out of character!
"Understood. Shall I have the PI keep tailing her?" Julian had noticed the PI’s hefty invoice.
Sharif reviewed the requested fee. "Give him an extra million and tell him to take a break. Call Charles. Have him pick two highly capable bodyguards to protect her from the shadows."
Julian was stunned. It seemed that even though the boss appreciated Amber's vengeful streak, he knew she lacked real backing. Joanne's father ran a loan shark business; just because Joanne was scared didn't mean her father wouldn't send people to cause trouble for Amber's dad.
Having bodyguards was the safest bet.
"Right away, I'll get it sorted."
As Julian made the arrangements, Sharif closed his email and returned to work. Until her exams are over, the little fox absolutely cannot face another incident like today.
