Monday's schedule was brutally tight for Sharif.
From his morning meetings until now, he hadn't even had time to use the restroom, let alone eat.
The three investment proposals Amber had gifted him were fully unrolling, and he needed to oversee the final executions personally.
Because of this, he had a flight out of town at 2:00 PM.
Currently, Sharif sat in the back of his luxury car heading toward the airport.
As always, he was reviewing documents. Sunlight streamed through the window, not hot, but casting a golden glow over his flawless, chiseled profile.
Julian, who had just turned back to brief him on the upcoming trip, caught the sight. Even as a man, he couldn't help but marvel. His boss was criminally handsome. Wasting that kind of charm by refusing to date was practically a sin against nature.
"Mr. Madison..." Julian began, but his phone buzzed. He muttered an apology and answered the call from the private investigator.
"Mr. Zeller, we have a problem. Amber's being attacked."
Julian froze. At that exact moment, a video file pinged into his messages. It showed Amber being hunted down by Wade and his men.
Julian's breath hitched. "Mr. Madison..."
Sharif didn't look up, used to Julian overreacting to minor inconveniences.
Unsure how to explain it, Julian simply enlarged the video and handed the phone directly to Sharif.
On screen, Amber stared down five men with furious, bloodshot eyes, refusing to be humiliated. Her desperate screams pierced through the speakers, stabbing directly into Sharif's chest like an invisible blade.
"Why the hell are you showing me this instead of saving her?!"
Sharif completely lost his composure, snatching the phone from Julian's hand. "Tell him I don't care how he does it, and the money is no object! If she loses a single hair on her head, he's dead!"
"Lyle, turn the car around! Follow the GPS!"
It was the first time Lyle, the driver, had ever seen his boss explode like this. Though he didn't know the exact details, the audio from the video sounded like a girl being brutally assaulted.
Wait, was it that student the company just sponsored?!
Those absolute animals! Lyle slammed the gas pedal, blowing through red lights. Thankfully, they were near the development zone, meaning he could push the car to its absolute limits.
Sharif gripped the phone, holding his breath as the line stayed open. *Hold on, little fox. Just hold on.*
"Still trying to run?"
Wade marched over, raising his hand to slap her again, but Amber glared at him with lethal intensity. "Wade, I highly recommend you leave right now. The police are already on their way."
Wade paused, startled. "You know my name?!"
"I not only know your name, I know Joanne sent you. What, she has enough tricks to wrap Lucian around her finger, but she's too cowardly to face me herself, so she sends you to take the fall?"
Amber didn't know Wade well. They had only briefly crossed paths at her engagement party in her past life.
But she knew exactly why Joanne had sent him.
"Did you honestly think a van would just completely disregard its own safety and crash in here if it didn't have backup? Are you truly that stupid?"
"I'm warning you, Wade. If you touch me, Sharif Madison will personally drag you to hell!"
Amber's icy glare made Wade falter for a second. But as a hardened street enforcer, he quickly scoffed. "So what if you know Joanne sent me? You shouldn't have crossed her. And Sharif Madison? The CEO of the Madison Group? Why the hell would he care enough to send me to hell? We're street trash, Amber. You think the richest man in Riverport gives a damn about us?"
"Trying to scare me, little girl? I've been running the streets since I was twelve. I've seen more blood than you've drank water. You think a few empty threats will save you? I've been patient enough today. So what if the cops come? I've done time before. Debt collecting isn't a capital crime."
