Chapter 250
I waited until the Rolls Royce disappeared around the corner, and then I walked toward my house, and as I got closer, I started screaming.
“What are you doing here? Your sister has already ruined me! She has destroyed me completely! Have you seen the videos? She used my face to make fake videos! Everyone thinks it is me! She made good on her threats! She threatened me this morning and now she has done it! Just leave me alone! Your sister has ruined my life!” –
“Seraphine, please,” Felix said, his face full of guilt, his hands reaching for me. “Please do not cry. I will take care of everything. I promise I will make sure everything is fine.”
“No! I do not want to live anymore! Just leave me alone!”
I ran into the house, and he followed me, and I did not stop running until I reached my storage closet and pulled out a rope. I grabbed a stool and climbed onto it, my hands shaking as I tried to tie the rope to the ceiling, as I tried to loop it around my neck. But Felix was there in seconds, pulling me down, his arms wrapped around my waist, his voice desperate in my ear.
“What are you doing? How can you want to end your life? Do not do this to yourself, Seraphine! You still have so much to live for!
I collapsed onto the floor, sobbing, my whole body shaking, and I said, “I have nothing left to live for! Your sister took my husband! She ruined my reputation! She destroyed me! I cannot even show my face in public anymore!”
“You have me,” he said, pulling me into his arms. “You have me, Seraphine.”
What do I do with a loser like you? I thought as I cried into his shoulder, my tears soaking his shirt. But I kept up the performance, kept my body shaking, kept my voice broken, until he finally said, “I promise you, I will get justice for you.”
“Just leave,” I said. “I want to be alone. I cannot look at you, Felix. You have the same face as Celeste. Every time I look at you, I see her, and the pain gets worse.”
“But I cannot leave you like this. How can I leave you in this condition?”
“I will be fine. I promise I will not harm myself. But please, just let me be alone.”
He stood up, his face hard with resolve, and he said, “I will not spare Celeste.” And then he turned and walked out, the door clicking shut behind him.
I waited until I heard his car start and drive away. Then I stood up, brushed the dust off my clothes, and said to myself, “Wow. That was quite a performance, Seraphine. I hope he does not come back.”
I was walking toward my bedroom to take a shower when my phone buzzed with a text message. I opened it, and my eyes went wide.
