Chapter 132

CELESTE

After the guards took Julian and Seraphine away, the room fell silent and I sat there naked on the bed, the sheets bunched around my hips, my skin still slick with sweat and the evidence of what we had just done drying between my thighs. Dominic walked over to the balcony, peeked through the window with careful precision, and then turned back to me.

“They are gone,” he said.

I nodded, the adrenaline that had been carrying me through the entire performance slowly draining out of my body, leaving behind something hollow and quiet. I looked up at him and flashed a smile, the kind that was supposed to communicate gratitude and finality in equal measure. “Thank you for playing along with me until the end.”

“It was my absolute pleasure,” Dominic replied.

And then, nothing.

The silence that settled between us was strange, the kind of silence that had too much weight behind it, too many things left unsaid. We did not look at each other. He stood by the window, I sat on the bed, and neither of us seemed to know what to do with our bodies now that the performance was over. The air in the room felt different, not quite awkward and not quite comfortable, hovering somewhere in between like a held breath.

I became acutely aware of my own nakedness, the way my skin felt sensitive and raw from the force of his hands, his mouth, his cock. A flush crept up my neck and I suddenly could not bring myself to meet his gaze. I gathered the sheets around my body, clutching them to my chest as I stood up, and told him I would be in the bathroom.

The bathroom tiles were cold under my feet and I stood under the shower for a long time, letting the hot water run over my face, my shoulders, my breasts. I watched the water swirl pink at my feet, a mixture of his cum and my wetness and the faint traces of blood from where his teeth had grazed my shoulder too hard. I pressed my palms against the tiled wall and tried to figure out what I was supposed to say to him when I stepped back out.

Everything between us had been leading up to this moment, this single evening where Julian would finally see what he had driven me to, where the betrayal would be complete and undeniable. I had not allowed myself to think beyond it. I had not allowed myself to consider what would happen after the curtain fell and the audience was dragged away. Now the show was over and I was standing in a stranger’s shower, naked and uncertain, trying to decide if I was supposed to act like none of it meant anything or if I was allowed to admit that some of it, maybe more than some of it, had been real.

I made up my mind as I turned off the water and stepped out. I would be grateful and professional. Anything else was a complication I could not afford.

When I came out of the bathroom, I began to get dressed, pulling my clothes back onto my body with deliberate efficiency, not looking at him, not slowing down. I could feel his eyes on me, tracking my movements, and I kept my expression neutral, my hands steady.

“Are you leaving?” Dominic asked.

“I still have things to do at the lab,” I told him, stepping into my shoes.
