Trick Him Into Divorce, Then Flee With His Unknow Kid novel Chapter 382

Chapter 382: Chapter 382 A Call in the Middle of the Night

A fleeting sadness crossed Alicia’s face, but it disappeared almost immediately.

She brightened and smiled at Ryan, revealing the dimples at the corners of her mouth—dimples that bore a faint resemblance to Rose’s.

“I don’t think you’re much of a fan of crowded parties either, Mr. Knight. Why don’t you come with me somewhere quieter?”

Alicia was completely unguarded.

Every thought and emotion showed plainly on her face, as though she’d finally worked up the courage to befriend him.

There was something disarmingly innocent about her. It made people instinctively lower their guard around her.

Ryan, however, remained unmoved.

His expression was as cold as the night outside.

“Miss Taylor, do you really not understand the difference between men and women?” he asked evenly. “Inviting a man out for drinks this late at night—is that innocence, or are you simply being reckless?”

Alicia’s eyes widened.

She clearly hadn’t expected such a brutal refusal.

She pressed her lips together, confusion flashing through her eyes.

“Mr. Knight, do you have some kind of misunderstanding about me?”

Ryan didn’t answer.

His gaze darkened.

“Miss Taylor, have you forgotten what happened to your mother?”

Alicia froze.

“What?”

Ryan casually rolled the lighter between his fingers.

“Victoria is your mother, isn’t she?”

Even sitting in a wheelchair, Ryan somehow managed to make Alicia feel as though he were looking down at her.

“Twenty years ago, you were adopted by the Taylor family and raised as their heiress. You grew up with everything that family could give you. Wherever you went, you were treated as the Taylor family’s only daughter.”

His voice remained calm.

“Now Rose is coming back. Do you really welcome her with all your heart?”

Alicia stared at him in disbelief.

She bit her lip.

“I have no reason not to. The Taylor family saved my life. Why would you assume something like that about me?”

Ryan had no interest in arguing.

If Alicia hadn’t approached him tonight, he probably wouldn’t have bothered explaining any of this.

He simply moved past her, his gaze lingering on the closed door of Trevor’s suite.

Alicia, however, wasn’t willing to let it go.

She hurried after him and stepped in front of his wheelchair again.

Her eyes were already beginning to redden.

“Mr. Knight, I don’t know why you think I’m that kind of person. But not everyone is as awful as you seem to believe. Whatever you think of me, I have to defend myself.”

Her eyes glistened with tears.

With her youthful features and wounded expression, she looked almost painfully vulnerable.

Unfortunately for her, the man standing before her was Ryan.

His gaze remained cold and unreadable.

“Then you’d better make sure you hide that fox’s tail.”

His voice was quiet.

The warning in it wasn’t.

Alicia’s expression stiffened.

Ryan didn’t wait for her response.

He rolled past her without another word.

She turned to watch him leave.

For the first time, Alicia realized that Ryan wasn’t at all the kind of man she’d imagined.

She’d once assumed that a man like him—someone who had been fooled by Samantha—must be soft-hearted toward women.

At the very least, she’d expected him to be a gentleman.

Apparently not.

Ryan was merciless.

And somehow, that made him even harder to understand.

Alicia lowered her gaze.

What exactly did Ryan think of Rose?

Rose was about to become part of the Robinson family. She had Trevor’s support, and now...

Was Ryan protecting her too?

Alicia blinked.

She watched Ryan’s retreating back for a long time.

A strange feeling slowly surfaced in her chest.

It took her several seconds to realise what it was.

She touched her cheek absentmindedly.

Then she looked toward Trevor’s suite.

*****

The cruise ship was alive with music and laughter that night.

Guests had been assigned cabins throughout the ship, and Ryan was no exception.

His room happened to be diagonally opposite Trevor’s suite.

As he passed it, his gaze lingered on the closed door.

His expression was unreadable.

The Ellis family had clearly gone all out to bring Rose and Trevor together.
