Too Late To Love Me I Already Left With His Twins (Lydia and Dave) novel Chapter 270

Anna POV

The moment I kissed the twins on their cheeks and watched them disappear in the direction of Lydia’s ward with Dave, I turned around and started walking toward the doctor’s office, exactly in the direction the nurse had prescribed.

And honestly, it was only when I started walking that I realized something.

I had not actually looked at this hospital properly.

Like, properly properly.

Because this place was huge.

Huge, huge, huge.

I slowed down slightly as I looked around me, taking everything in with a little more attention than I had the last time I was here. There were corridors stretching in almost every direction, glass doors leading into different departments, nurses moving briskly from one end to another, people sitting in waiting areas, doctors walking around with files and tablets in their hands.

It suddenly reminded me of Grey’s Anatomy.

You know those hospitals in Grey’s Anatomy that are so ridiculously huge that you could literally walk for five minutes and still not reach wherever you were supposed to be going?

Yeah.

This was that kind of hospital.

I actually found myself looking down the hallway for those guys they call resident doctors, interns, whatever the actual terminology is, because I swear, if someone suddenly started running down the corridor holding a stack of files and yelling that they needed a surgeon, I would not even be surprised.

And then I remembered that I’d actually been to this hospital a couple of times because of the kids.

I have an old mother, and there had been different reasons we’d had to come here over the years, but somehow I’d never stopped to actually think about the size of the place.

Why does this hospital have this much long hallway?

I mean, seriously.

Why?

It’s not even ideal for the medical workers, for the healthcare workers, for the—I don’t even know.

Imagine having to walk from one end of this place to another because somebody called you from a different department.

But then again, that’s normal.

Hospitals are supposed to be like this, I guess.

People need their different departments, their wards, their theatres, their laboratories, their emergency units and all those things.

I just never thought about it.

I continued walking, my heels making small sounds against the polished floor, and despite all my random thoughts about the hospital, there was still one question sitting at the back of my mind.

Why exactly did the doctor want to see only me?

That part was bothering me.

I mean, I was excited to see Lydia. More than excited, actually. I was practically dying to see her with my own two eyes, to hear her voice, to know that the woman who had terrified all of us for the past few hours was actually awake.

So why did the doctor need me?

Had something changed?

Was there something he wanted to tell me before I saw her?

Was there something about her condition that he didn’t want the kids hearing?

My steps slowed.

I looked around the corridor again.

Okay, Anna.

Stop overthinking.

Maybe he simply needed to update me because I was the person who had given consent for her surgery.

That made sense.

At least, it should.

I finally found the office the nurse had pointed me toward.

I stopped outside the door, adjusted my bag slightly on my shoulder, took one deep breath and knocked.

“Come in.”

I opened the door.

And the first thing I noticed was that it wasn’t the doctor I’d seen that day during the whole trauma situation.

This was someone else.

He looked younger than the doctor I remembered, and he had this calm expression on his face that somehow made him look like someone who smiled a lot.

His name was written clearly on the identification card attached to his coat.

Dr. Eleph.

I looked at him.

Then at the ID.

Then back at him.

“Oh…”

He looked up from whatever he had been doing.

“Yes?”

I smiled awkwardly.

“I’m Anna. Mrs. Anna. Lydia’s family member, caretaker, or whatever it is you guys call it.”

He smiled.

Again.

Okay.

This doctor really loved smiling.

But then again, he’s young.

Maybe he still has energy for the job.

I don’t know.

“Oh yes,” he said, gesturing toward the chair opposite his desk. “Welcome. Please, sit.”

“Thank you.”

I walked over and sat down, placing my bag beside me.

“The nurse at the reception told me you wanted to see me.”

“Oh yes, definitely,” he replied. “I told her about that. I do want to see you.”

I nodded.

“So what’s up?”

I couldn’t even hide the smile that came with the next sentence.

“I heard she’s awake now.”

“Yes.”
