Too Late To Love Me I Already Left With His Twins (Lydia and Dave) novel Chapter 277

Anna POV

My heart tightened.

“Don’t say that.”

“But I don’t know anything about myself.”

“You know some things.”

“Like what?”

I opened my mouth.

Then closed it.

She looked at me expectantly.

“You like…”

I stopped.

What did she like?

What could I tell her that she would recognize as herself?

“You like your favorite color.”

She gave me a look.

“That’s not very useful.”

“Okay, fine.”

I laughed softly.

“You like certain foods. You hate when people touch your things without asking. You hate being late. You love…”

I stopped again.

Because all of those things sounded so small compared to the giant pieces of her life that were missing.

She looked down at herself.

“Even my body feels unfamiliar.”

I frowned.

“What do you mean?”

“I don’t think I’m in my early twenties.”

She touched her arm.

“Like, I know what I looked like before. I remember myself as a youthful lady. But…”

Her eyes moved over herself.

“There’s development now that I don’t remember.”

I didn’t say anything.

“I even noticed some scars beneath my stomach.”

My stomach tightened.

“Scars?”

“Yes.”

She looked genuinely frightened.

“I don’t remember getting them.”

I knew exactly what she was talking about.

But I wasn’t about to start explaining things she wasn’t ready to hear.

She shook her head.

“I don’t know what to believe anymore.”

“Lydia…”

“I don’t even know why I’m talking to you.”

She suddenly looked suspicious.

“What if you’re an enemy?”

I blinked.

“What?”

“What if you’re pretending to be my friend?”

“Lydia—”

“What if you’re trying to get something from me?”

“I’ve known you for almost a year.”

“But I don’t remember that.”

That shut me up.

“What if you’re trying to make money from me?”

I stared at her.

“Or kidnap me?”

“Kidnap you?”

“Yes.”

I couldn’t help it.

A tiny laugh escaped me.

“Why would I kidnap you from a hospital?”

“I don’t know!”

She looked frustrated.

“I don’t know anything!”

“Okay, okay.”

I lifted my hands.

“I’m not kidnapping you.”

“Good.”

“And I’m not trying to make money from you.”

“Good.”

“And I’m definitely your best friend.”

She looked unconvinced.

“That’s still under investigation.”

I smiled despite myself.

At least that sounded a little like Lydia.

Then she looked toward the window.

“Where are we?”

I turned toward it.

“You’re in the hospital.”

“I know that.”

She gave me an annoyed look.

“I mean where?”

“Country Z.”

Her face changed.

“Country Z?”

“Yes.”

“I’ve never been here.”

I stared at her.

“What?”

“I’ve never been here.”

“Lydia…”

“I think the last time I knew anything about this country, I was fifteen.”

She looked toward the window again.

“I remember seeing a photograph of something from here.”

“A photograph?”

“Yes.”

She frowned, trying to force the memory into place.

“That was the last thing I remember about this place.”

She looked back at me.

“I’ve never been here. So how am I here?”

I didn’t know whether to answer that question.

“Lydia…”

“Oh my God.”

She rubbed her face.

“There are so many questions.”

“I know.”

“Why am I here?”

“You were in an accident.”

“I know that part.”

“You had surgery.”

“I know.”

“I know you don’t remember much.”

“Clearly.”

She sighed.

“I feel like I’ve woken up in somebody else’s life.”

That sentence hit me harder than everything else.

Because that was exactly what had happened.

Except it wasn’t somebody else’s life.

It was hers.

Her husband.

Her children.

Her friends.

Her home.

Her entire adulthood.

Everything that had happened after college was sitting right in front of her, and she couldn’t recognize any of it.

I took a breath.

“You know what?”

She looked at me.

“I’ll answer your questions.”

“Really?”

“Yes.”

“All of them?”

“Eventually.”

She smiled faintly.
