Silas swallowed hard. The feverish heat pooling in his veins was nearly impossible to suppress, and the rigid tension gripping his entire frame was impossible to hide.
Still, he reached up to gently encircle her waist, his eyes dark with immense restraint and devotion. "It is a little torturous, but just holding you and kissing you like this is more than enough for me. I don't demand anything else. We'll take it slow."
His endless accommodation and self-control moved Willow deeply. After a brief silence, she looked up at him, her eyes shining with newfound resolve. "I want to," she whispered.
Silas went perfectly still, wondering if his fevered mind was playing tricks on him. "What did you say?"
"I said I want to. I don't want to see you suffer like this," Willow repeated, her voice steady and sure. "When two people truly love each other, getting swept up in the moment is perfectly natural. Besides, I've already accepted your proposal. It's only right that we share everything with each other."
The words felt like a miracle. Silas's pupils dilated, a look of sheer, breathless elation flooding his expression.
He cupped her face in his hands, his voice trembling slightly as he carefully probed for certainty. "Darling, are you absolutely sure? You know what this means, right? Please don't force yourself. I really don't mind waiting. I'll wait as long as it takes."
"I'm not forcing myself." Willow shook her head firmly.
She just thought it was a bit awkward to be having this conversation right on the precipice of sleeping together.
But then a thought struck her. Silas was famously guarded and deliberate. He wasn't the type to casually broadcast details of his sex life. If he specifically brought up the timeline, there had to be a reason.
A wild, impossible realization suddenly slammed into her mind. Willow's breath hitched, and she stared blankly at the handsome man just inches from her face.
Taking in her shocked expression, a tender, deeply loving smile spread across Silas's face. He spoke clearly, enunciating every single word. "That's right. The man from three years ago was me."
