Chapter 428 Didn’t Hold Back
Maya was faster.

She blocked him with one hand, grabbed her dagger, and pressed it against his throat in one swift motion.
Maya held up her phone. The screen showed a clear photo of Kaia taken from her school records. She wore a neat uniform and a perfect smile, looking like a well–behaved student.
“Do you know where she is?”
The man glanced at the photo, a hint of challenge in his voice. “What are you talking about? I don’t know what you mean.”
Maya couldn’t be bothered to waste time with him. She pressed the blade harder against his neck. “Are you sure you don’t want to talk?”
She stared at him calmly.
He still wasn’t afraid. Pretending not to understand, he asked, “What do you want me to say?”
It was a decent way to stall for time.
As long as he refused to cooperate, none of their methods would work.
He tried to break free, but she held him firmly in place. Maya kept the blade pressed against his throat and repeated, “Are you sure you’re not going to talk?”
“Get lost,” he spat.
He didn’t believe Maya would kill him so easily.
Everyone from Asterio seemed to think the same way.
They believed they stood on the side of justice, while their enemies were nothing but criminals.
That belief gave them a false sense of safety. Even in the most dangerous moments, they remained strangely confident.
Maya didn’t want to waste any more time.
Come to think of it, she’d changed a lot over the past few years.
The old Maya would never have been able to do this.

But she was different now.
“Fine. Good night, then.”
She spoke softly, then slashed across his throat.
As he collapsed, a look of disbelief froze on his face.

Right to the very end, he couldn’t understand why Maya had actually dared to kill him.

Afterward, Maya calmly took his laptop. She planned to bring it to Ernest and see whether anything useful could be recovered from it.
She was leading the team, with her usual partners, Wisteria and Iris.
When she reached Wisteria’s assigned area, she found that Wisteria had been even more efficient than she was. No one was left standing.
“You could’ve left a few alive for questioning.”
The moment Maya arrived, she saw that her partner had killed everyone.
She immediately felt a headache coming on.
Iris shrugged. “Wisteria’s probably trying to meet her quota. It’s almost the end of the year.”
Unlike the other two, who were content to do the bare minimum, Wisteria had always been a workaholic.
Recently, the three of them had been busy taking Asterio down. Working together had sent their team’s numbers through the roof.
Their team leader had even started looking at them more fondly, as if they were his three star employees.
George had sent the information to Maya just a while ago. Still worried, he’d taken a taxi and headed to where she was.
It was her first time leading a team, so he’d expected her to make a few mistakes in her decisions, such as leaving too many people alive.
Instead, he walked in to find a bloody scene. The girls had clearly chosen to kill whoever they could and take no prisoners.
They really don’t know when to hold back.

Keeping his presence hidden, George watched for a while. Then he bent down, picked up a hammer someone had dropped, and weighed it in his hand.
After that, he slowly headed upstairs.
He had to admit that Maya had the talent to become an excellent assassin.
Her only weakness was scouting.
