The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 418

Jamie didn't linger either. He quickly caught up to Suzie, guiding her down the hall.

When they reached a set of double doors, the manager scurried over, practically tripping over himself to be helpful. "Mr. Baylor, whatever you need, just say the word."

Jamie paused, his hand hovering over the door lock. He replied coolly, "Have a selection of dresses sent here. Size small. The more options, the better. Nothing too revealing."

The manager didn't dare look at Suzie, but he had obviously noticed her torn dress earlier. He nodded enthusiastically. "Right away, Mr. Baylor. Shall I have some drinks sent up as well?"

"That's fine."

The manager bowed again and scurried off to fulfill the order.

Suzie frowned as she watched Jamie place his thumb against the biometric lock.

She remembered reading about this estate online—it didn't belong to the Baylor family.

Why did he have a private, fingerprint-secured suite here?

And wasn't he taking her to a standard dressing room? What was this?

As the heavy door clicked open, Suzie peered inside. The interior was decorated exactly to Jamie's usual tastes—dark greys, minimalist, understated luxury.

"I thought we were going to a dressing room. What is this?" she demanded, taking a half-step back, ready to leave.

Jamie caught her wrist and gently pulled her inside. "Just sit on the sofa and wait. Once the clothes get here, I'll leave."

Seeing that he released her the moment she was inside, Suzie hesitated for a second before giving in.

She took her clutch from him and walked straight over to the sofa.

As soon as she sat down, she heard the heavy door click shut. Her voice was ice. "Leave the door open. Unless you want more people treating me like a cheap escort."

Jamie frowned but actually listened to her, pulling the door back open.

As he walked over, Suzie felt a wave of discomfort. She just wanted the clothes to arrive so she could change and get the hell out of there.

Before she knew it, Jamie was sitting on the sofa next to her—not too close, but definitely not far enough away.

Jamie paused, then sighed, playing the voice of reason. "The dresses are provided by the organizers. You wear it tonight, we return it tomorrow. There's no need to waste your money."

"Then consider it a rental fee. You still have to pay for that."

"Fine. But you can't just scan me on this account. You have to add me as a friend first."

Saying this, Jamie pulled out his phone, brought up his profile QR code, and held it out to her.

Suzie gave him a deadpan look. "Go back. Just show me the payment app"

"Oh? Really? That works too?" Jamie muttered lazily, deliberately taking his sweet time swiping through his screen.

Suzie quietly ground her teeth. Keep acting. Just keep acting!

When he finally held his phone out again, she asked, "How much?"

Jamie stared at her, his eyes dark and teeming with unspoken emotion. "Venmo me fifty bucks."
